What is a medie server? I can search for media servers on my ps3 but never find one
This topic is locked from further discussion.
An example of a media server is Windows Media Player 11. If you set it up for file sharing and your PC is on, your PS3 will find it while searching for media servers and you'll be able to access all of your media from your PC, as long as it's Windows Media Player 11 AND PS3 compatible. There are some other programs that work as media servers, but I don't know what any of them are called.
how does it ditect your PC, do i have to have my wired connection(thats all i have)? also you said as long as its WMP 11 and PS3 compatible, most of my files play on itunes but they are compatible with WMP so is that still ok? sorry if my question was confusingzspec562
1) I'm pretty sure you have to have wireless, but I may be wrong.
2) If you've set up Windows Media Player 11 to share all files in your My Documents folder and your iTunes music is somewhere in the My Documents folder and they are mp3 files (or AAC, I'm not sure if Windows Media Player 11 supports that flie type), then they will show up when you do a search for a media server.
cool thanks
one more question: where do i go to tell my WMP11 to share my files?

Right click up at the top and go to Tools > Options... > Library > Configure Sharing. The PS3 should be called "Unknown Device". That's what you want to allow sharing to.
