The PS3 Media Server is simply a device that's there to store and share media from your PC. You need Windows Media Player 11. Then go to Library & enable Media Sharing.

Just get the freeware program TVersity, just install and give folder acces to where you store your movies/music an pictures.
The PS3 will automaticly pick up on it.

I still confused but would like to use this option, using a jump/thumb drive is ok, but wireless would be easier I guess.

Is there and way to do this without downloading stuff, the easiest way sounded to just download WindowS media palyer 11 or something????

Download TVersity.. It will ask you to choose folder you want to share. Once that is done, turn on your PS3 and under Music/Video/Pictures, you'll see "TVersity"... You'll then have access to all you Videos Music and Pictures from your PC. they are not downloaded but streamed. If you have Divx or Xvid files, be sure you have the right codecs installed on the PC as TVersity will convert the video so that the PS3 can read it. A Wired connection is better there will be less lag, unless you have a killed wireless router (as I do). So download TVersity, THATS IT!

Have you checked your firewall settings? it may be blocking it.

Install Tversity, install ffdshow codecs. Run Tversity, select folders you wish to stream to the PS3.

The console should detect the media server immediatly. Divx movies can be converted on the fly to the PS3, with subtitles, no converter required.

If you're having corrupted file problems, stop the server; click the windows start button ---> run ---> mediaserver - debug. Altough you'll have to this every time you want to start the server, it is worth it.
