Only some file types are supported. Also, make sure you enable sharing on the folder you keep the files in.

unless youre ok with waiting 2 or 3 hours to convert a video you should just give up on videos for the ps3 its pointless all that time just to watch a movie maybe twice. watch them off youre pc

WMV is not supported! ( http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/video/filetypes.html )

Get TVersity (www.tversity.com) and you'll be able to stream wmv-files and other files like they were supported by PS3.

Sounds like you should get TVersity as well =)

i'm pretty sure wmv files aren't supported, wmv is a closed container format and in order for them to work on the ps3, sony would have to pay to license it from microsoft. i've converted files to avc mpeg-4 (.mp4 extension) and they work fine on the ps3.

No need for additional cables between the PC and TV/PS3 so you can watch it on your TV, no time or DVDs wasted burning it to DVD.
I really only see advantages using TVersity, it sounds like you're just being negative..
