So I just beat the amazing MGS4 and I loved it beyond what words can express. I wanted to check out the online mode, but whenever I tried downloading the mandatory update it was ridiculously slow, like 15+ minutes to go from 1 to 2%. I tried using the HTTP download and it was slightly faster, but it was interrupted by an unspecified error. Is it normal that it takes so long? Is there no other way to install the patch, maybe via usb?

Thanks.

Ok the best part is when you download it, you will find out the online sucks, your have to port foward so you can host a game, and no body plays online and the people who do are elitists who spend all day playing and you wont even get a kill after 20 hours of play time.

get Resistance 2 instead

might as well cancel the download. its one of the most boring MP experiences ive ever had. loved the SP but the MP is a joke. dont listen to the die hard MGO fans. there are only a few of them. the rest of us know how boring MGO is.

Yeah, it'll take a long time. There have been a lot of updates since release. Also, don't listen to these guys bashing the game. They just hate it because you can't go in and do Call of Duty run-n-gunning or you'll get yourself killed a thousand times.

I liked it when I first got it, but I probably haven't played it online in over a year. It was such a hassle getting everything started up and it really wasn't worth it.

I used to play it pretty often and I actually got to be pretty good at it, but then I quit for a couple months when I got a new game or two. Then when I started back up I sucked so hard it wasn't fun in the least. I kept getting shot in the head repeatedly (it's way to easy to get a headshot in this game) and I could barely maneuver my character the way I wanted to because the controls are so awkward. You get used to them, but don't expect to very soon. It also takes absolutely forever to level up anything. You have to intentionally boost your skills to get them to do anything helpful unless you want to log in 50+ hours per skill.

Another thing that has always annoyed me is how Konami refuses to use the PSN servers for online games and PSN store for it's expansion packs. You have to sign up for a Konami ID and then go through their godawful site just to get a couple crappy downloads. If everything was just hosted on the PSN it would be a lot more convenient and people might not hate it quite as much.

MGO has always been an elitist game, way back on ps2. You'll never find more hardcore fans/players for a game. If you have skill and patience then I highly recommend this game. the community can be cool if put some effort into. This is not a FPS. MGO and FPS games are like 2d and 3d fighting games. Same type of game but oh so different in playing them.

I'll admit though, you should have played this when it first came out, it was a blast. I played about 4 hrs a day. I don't play online games really, but for me this was awesome. Yes there is a lot of hassle to setting it up, and yes it's a challenging community, but if you have skill then it's completely worth. However, if you are a CoD, or Halo fps kinda guy....then stay far far away from this.

I'll just add this -finding good games w/o owning the map packs is pretty difficult, so be prepared to shell out some extra money for those if you really wanna get into it.

Pls do not talk about something if you dont know anything about it. there are around 5 lobbys, 3 of them 1000 people each, you can ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS can find a game.

well I kinda had the same problem but LONG ago and I mean like 1 year ago. it was my interwebz connection, it was not fast enough, you need to have at least 1mb connection (I upgraded to 1mb and I can play smoothly now) then again, it could be because you need to put 1,5 years of UPDATES, that thing is dreadfully heavy

Your best bet is to forget Metal Gear Online even exists.
