Metal Gear Solid 4, is it that good?

Ok guys on a previous thread I said I wanted your opinions on which FPS game to get. Noone said MGS4?

Any reason?

Is it that good that you automatically overlooked it cause you probably thought I'd already should have had it?

Is it a FPS game?

Should i get this before I get Resistance 2?

Can you play MGS4 online like COD4? is it good online?

Is resistance 2 as good if not better then MGS4?

Please help me make a decision.

one word: OVERRATED. it was among the first PS3 games i ever bought (due to reading all the great reviews and such on here), and its also one of the biggest dissapoitments i have ever encountered through all my years of gaming. i mean.. its just any other game. the controls/gameplay are bad (he moves SO SLOW, and the aim could have been SO MUCH BETTER), and obivously these two things plays big parts in the game. however, if youre anything like 90% of the rest of this board youll absolutely (for some abnormal reason) LOVE this game.. and while i feel like throwing up everytime i hear anyone praise it, it will most definitely win the GOTY awards and will be rendered as one of the best PS3 games ever for a looooong time. sadly.escapeoftheape

Everyone is entitled to their opinion .. but you come off like yours is right ..

MGS4 is a great game .. yes there are a lot of cinematics, so get ready to sit there and watch, but when the gameplay kicks in the game can get pretty intense .. and if you've played the previous it is a must play ..

its an excellent game imo (im in the last area right now) i've actually gone so far as to start calling it "movie gear solid" since there are a lot of cut scenes, but the game itself is made from pure awesomeness. if you're not into stealth games or the MGS series then try the previous iterations and see if you like it, if so play them all and end it with MGS4.

to counter the guy who gave his negative opinion of the game, i thought the controls and aiming were quite good. of course, im used to the controls and aiming on a console so its not a big deal for me. and also there are a TON of options for the controls and their movement so if you think the aim speed is too slow in first person view then you can change it.

I also like the fact that you can play stealth .. or even run and gun .. you get to choose the path you take .. I love that ..

One level I can stealth it .. another one I can blow 50 guys away .. it's awesome in that respect ..

Using FPS mode is waaaay better on sniping or getting a clear shot from far away...

BTW, everyone is pretty much saying that MGS4 is Overrated...it kinda is...But it's still a great game....

YES, it is that good, actually it is excellent! from MGS ! up to MGS 4. great graphics, great story, great characters. maybe those who don't like it are the ones who can't relate to the story. MGS is one of the games that has a very good story, togther with the likes of FF VII. full of action, suspense, drama, turns, and a bit of naughtiness.

Every game (movie, play, song, whatever) that's ever gotten a max score is overated. Nothing is perfect and never will be.

In the gaming biz, MGS4 is the closest to perfection i've seen yet though.

hell yeah, MGS4 is an amazing game.

get of that seat and sneak your way into the shop to get it :) its good practice for the game

and yes get MGS4 before getting resistence 2

but it is a game loaded with storyline, so if you dont like those well you can get it but you might not like it as much

still, i think its an amazing game and the only one able to stand on the same level as the first MGS on PS1, if u didnt, go check that one out too.

I am a BIG no HUGE MG fan but this dude has it right.

To fans this game is the best game ever made because the story has went on for so long and this game answers all the questions from previous games, but if you are new the you will not see the point of the long cut scenes and the dialog not to mention MGS has its own sense of humor that has to grow on you after you have played plenty of games...

Example the problem with Akiba may seem childish to new viewers but it reminds us MG fans of a key element of MGS1 and how we had to escape from prison....

Truthfully dude I say you need to get R2... and for all the people that say this game is too slow... and the cotrols are bad... I really want to know what games you consider great and has great controls

I mean the movement with snake had all possibilites and once you start to get good with the movements it looks really I mean REALLY good in battles...

And I love the online by the way... It is finally an online game that requires you to think a little and not just run around with a gun and point and shoot...

Metal Gear Solid 4 is awesome. It can be played like a FPS too! (but it really isn't one)

But in my honest opinion.. I believe MGS4 is only for those who have played the previous MGS games and loved them.

DO NOT blind buy this game, its NOT FOR EVERYONE. i'd say rent it first. i didnt like the previous mgs games, so i already knew that i wouldnt like mgs4. everyone has their own opinions on games, but it would suck to spend $60 to find out that this game isnt for you.

It was far from a bad game, but personally I'd give it an 8.0. When you got to actually play the game .Eddie5vs1

I thought it was great. Overall, I thought MGS3 had a better story and MGS2 was more fun but MGS4 combined the two with a great story and new gameplay mechanics that built on top of its predcessors.

Although Act 1 and 2 are better than MGS3 and MGS2 in both regards.

- Yes, MGS4 should be at least given a try by everyone owning a PS3

- No, it is a third person shooter/stealth game. There is a first person aiming mode carried over from earlier MGS games but it is clumsy and ineffective. For all intents and purposes though the game is strictly third person.

Should i get this before I get Resistance 2?

- I'd say try and get them both, MGS4 is definitely the best single player campaign on the PS3, while Resistance 2 at this time is definitely the best online.

Can you play MGS4 online like COD4? is it good online?

- MGS4 does have an online but it is terrible. Konami does not use the Playstation Network for the online but rather it's own service requiring several accounts just to play. Also DLC is handled through their service not the Playstation Store so its a confusing mess. The gameplay itself is not multiplayer friendly and has several problems which are exploited by players. Not too mention it has a non-functioning matchmaking service which forces players to use an obsolete player created match room system which by taking one look at it you will know why words like awful and terrible do not do it justice.

Is resistance 2 as good if not better then MGS4?

- They are apples and oranges two entirely different games, genres, and experiences. MGS4 is all about a deep cinematic and engaging story with stealth focused gameplay while Resitance 2 is all about action and shooting things.As I said before MGS4 is the better single player and R2 is the better multiplayer.

Here I hope this was more thorough and helpfull then most of whats been said.

The game itself is an experience for the next generation of gaming. Some people don't agree because it is so slow(it's not really), but let's say if you're a fan of chess and thinking on a huge scale(ya know, several moves ahead of your enemy), you might enjoy this game. And some of those types complain about the story, and honestly it's very big(almost too convoluted for it's own good), but if you get bored by a single-stereotyped archtype, then you might like the story along with the gameplay. This game isn't the runner and gunner type(some quick minds could play it like that), it's a stealth and action type game. And the blend is well balanced. If you like the idea of a secret agent man or the masked ninja hero type sneaking into a building without firing a single round, but relying on cunning and resourcing, then this is the game for you.

Though, you can shoot people.

This isn't a candly land type of game, where it treats you like a child by giving you simple gameplay and a big gun(ego), it's a game that wants you to enjoy being a gamer.

MGS fan: 10 out of 10

As a standalone game: 9

Mine is : It's freaking awesome.

I dont see the hype..I havent even touched this game after story and a little multiplayer.Story is yes very good but multiplayer sucks..There are a lot of better games imo.Its just like a single player game

I think god of war 3 beats this game
