How did they manage to make the battle with pyscho mantis playable?

Didn't you have to unplug your controller from the 1st port and plug it intot he 2nd port to beat him?

How did / does that translate to the PSP?

PSP's PSX menu has an option for switching to controller port 2, most probably for this game specifically.

I played MGS 1 on the PS3 and you had to go to the XMB where there's an option to change controller ports. It's probably the same with the PSP.
