The whole saga offered everything other games haven't accomplished yet and that is one game, one storyline that dates back from 1987 when the very first Metal Gear was introduced to the world, 1 hero, 1 cast of characters that kept going and coming, an awesome gameplay mechanics, awesome stealth elements, creative boss battles some of which are mind blowing and some that will drive you crazy, the saga offered epic moments in gaming through the Hollywood-like cutscenes and Hollywood music. The saga brought into my attention: political events and conspiracy theories such as Illuminati-like groups, moreover biology played a major role in the series, genetic engineering, gene therapy, gene enhancements, nanomachines, cloning, creating the perfect soldier by enchancing his genes(Pentagon is currently seeking this) etc.... the danger of nuclear weapons, cold war era, communism, PMCs, secret pacts, how the CIA might be operating and alot of ideas of how this world might be functionning. The saga gave too much in all of the aspects of a video game and it was worth it. Thank you Kojima, you're a genius.

All of the above. MGS did things no other games were doing and have yet to do. I remember the opening scene to MGS1 and how much like a movie it was. that blew my mind. Snake was instantly the coolest game character I had ever seen. It was the first game I played with spoken dialogue besides RE2. The lighting effects were superb for such an old game. The villians were totally awesome and I fell in love with each of them and their endearing back stories. Then I saw Gray Fox..... OMG! Metal Gear.... OMG! Twins!!?!?!?.........OMG! MGS1 was hands down the best game of that gen just based on the story and cinematics and characters alone. Now, the gameplay and weapons.... Mind = Blown. I never knew I was a stealth fan until I played Metal Gear Solid. It had never been so fun to actually NOT kill enemy soldiers. And the "neck snapping" was crazy fun. No other game had put so much effort into gameplay at that point. A lot of them still haven't :( Anyway, that's just why I love MGS1. The rest of them followed suit with their own amazing characters and stories and improvements to the already incredible gameplay, so needless to say I fell in love with them all. What's really epic is that if you think about it Meta Gear's saga is ONE story stretched over SEVEN canon games that date back to the ol' NES days in '87. That's impressive. Now, what's really impressive is that it was good enought to actually keep us intersted for that long........ and we still want MORE!!!!! Kojima's Metal Gear saga has what's kept me tied to gaming all this time. I had long given up on PS2 until MGS3 came out. Then I played games like crazy. Then I gave up again and laughed at the "idiots" who were shelling out $500 to play video games. Then I saw MGS4 bundled with it and became an "idiot" myself. Now, look at me. All I do is play games, talk about games, watch game trailers, read game magazines, and am now going back to college this fall to be a video game designer. Kojima, thank you for keeping life interesting for me. My wife hates you.
