I was thinking about getting into the series, but I was wondering if I should play them in the order they came in (1>2>3>4 etc) Or, in Chronological order.

It's best to play them in the order they were released in to fully grasp the story. (1,2,3,4 and PO and PW if you own a PSP)
play them in the order they came out, you greatly appreciate the evolution of the series, this is my favorite series ever, i absolutely love it and wait for the next title as soon as one comes out
Technically 3 precedes the other console releases but as long as 4 is last and 2 is either second or third it wouldnt matter much. So you could do 1234 or 1324 or 3124 lol.Kurushio
lol, but 3 has some cool gameplay mechanics that arent in 1 or 2, and 4 has more than any of them, which is why i say to play them in the order they are released to fully appreciate the evolution, plus SPOILERRRR >>>>>....................................
that part in 4 when he has a flashback of 1 in shadow moses, you get chills if you play them in order, it threw me back to 1998 when i was a kid
and that part in 4 where u fight mantis, it does a quick homage to 1 where it said hideo 1, and you had to switch your memory card to slot 2 so he wont be able to read your mind, so epicccc
First play Metal Gear Soild, before playing read the story leading up to it in I believe the option section. It talks about Zanzabar and other things that happen to snake while in Foxhound during Metal Gear 1&2. Then just basically play them in order, MGS1,MGS2,MGS3(your big boss),then MGS4.

I suggest you go to www.wikipedia.org .... and type metal gear solid..... they will show you the MGS TIMELINE / chronology ..... also beware of spoiler
nice one illegalIf you really want to get into series you should start within Metal Gear on NES ( use emulator if u dont have NES or the game).
