So before I get Metal Gear Solid 4, I wanted to buy The Essential Collection to replay and hopefully actually understand the Metal Gear Solid story.

What comes with The Essential Collection?

I have the first 1, but I think the Essential comes with the updated versions of each of the games.

My only problem is that Ill have to wait almost a month after MGS4 comes out to pick it up.

You get the "best" version of each game, as there were several versions of each one. You also get some bonus DVD although I don't know exactly what's on it yet.

I DON'T recommend that... He won't build the same connection with the characters that way and ultimately the ending will be less climactic for him.

I really dont recommend what this guy above me is saying. Go, buy the game, play all 3 of them and get to know how the series work. Going to Wiki wont help you in understanding how Kojima does his games, and will ultimately make you less acceptant of what MGS 4 is going to be.

yes if you play all 3 games DO NOT PLAY MGS3 FIRST play mgs1 first because if you play mgs3 first and get used to the controls you might not like mgs1 and also there is no bonus DVD just the 3 games but trust me if you play all 3 back to back the story wont be confusing at all its only confusing to those that play the games years after each other and the maybe forgot stuff

I did play MGS3 first when I used to have them. I used to have all of them but I needed money for a new game so I sold 2 and 3 and now I want to buy them again.
