They both have there strong points

Metal Gear Solid

It leads in the ability to fight your opponents when your caught, where in splinter cell when your caught you fail the mission and have to start from your last checkpoint! MGS also leads in story line and in weapon usage, there is so many ways to kill people in this series and thats why I buy there games.

Splinter Cell

The reason I like splinter cell is because your like a ghost, never to be seen, until you run into someone of course. Splinter Cell leads in stealth there is many places to hide even when there seems like there's no where to go, when in Metal Gear Solid you hide in cardboard box.

Snake vs Sam Fisher

A war raged around the gaming world, that and sonic vs mario, i prefer mario to be honest. But back on subject, if it really came down to a fight Snake would win by far, all Sam can do at this point is hide but Snake is a kick ass combatant that smokes, but then again you can't hit what you can't see.

I can't decide which is best, probably MGS due to the sheer scope of the story but otherwise in gameplay etc.. they both have strong and week points. All I know is Peace Walker, Rising and Conviction are three of my most anticipated games coming in the next year or so. Both franchises are great.

I prefer Metal Gear Solid though Splinter Cell is nice too. I mean a stealth game with boss fights (and hell those are great boss fights) is just instant win. Just remember Fatman.

As much as I hate the incredibly long cutscenes of the MGS series, I do prefer the Japanese' passive way of storytelling, so MGS wins.

I love the rich story of MGS series, as well as MGS4, but i also love the stealth mechanics of splinter cell, and the co-op and multiplayer are just pure fun.

Its hard to compare them, but ive been loving MGS before splinter cell (That sounds so wrong), So ill go with MGS

I prefer the stealth in Splinter Cell especially in Double Agent, with all those stealth actions. Metal Gear 4 was sweet, too.

Comparison is pointless: they're two completely different series (gameplay-wise) and two completely different characters. Splinter Cell aims for realism, Metal Gear goes for a more cinematic approach.

Like the poster before me said. You can't really compare these 2 games since the only thing they have in common is a stealth aspect but even that is different in both games. I see that everyone is choosing MGS cause of its story but Splinter Cell has a pretty engrossing storyline also especially for people like me who own all 4 games and all the books. Sam Fisher has been a favorite of mine for a long while while Snake and Raiden have too. Both games are great for stealth action lovers plain and simple.

Splinter Cell easily. Take away the convoluted storyline and MGS is nothing but a 4 hour game with stealth mechanics that inferior to Splinter Cells and if you get caught, you are barely punished. Where in Splinter Cell, the stealth is much more tense and well done and you are much more motivated to not get caught.

I always thought splinter cell's gameplay was always linear. Where as mgs' gameplay gives you a choice either going silent or loud and shooting up the place guns blazing, and it also lets you take multiple paths since its a free-roam kind of game.

^^^^MGS is a free roam kind of game? Lol, no. I consider Splinter Cell's stealth elements to be more realistic, but MGS is more fun to play. It's gameplay is perfect. Though Splinter Cell is a very strong series as well.

To an extent yes...yes it is. In ALL mgs games you have the ability to back track and explore many locations on your own. In splinter cell you do not since its mission based. you go from point A to point B eliminating linear passed guards that dont move...but sit in a chair and drink coffee or whatever.

I've played Splinter Cell, and Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Hated both of them. The gameplay is tedious and just does absolutely nothing for me, nor do the supposed "stories". Conviction looks a bit better, but I have my doubts. Metal Gear Solid on the other hand, I've been hooked utterly since the very beginning.

havent played mgs but i know the basic plot. tbh its just a bit too wierd. clones of people and the main charcter can turn into a bottle of goo at any moment? count me out. also i prefer realistic games. that means no boss fights and realistic plots. i did play the demo of MGS and the graphics where superb. but i find snake less athletic and generally less stealthy. its just so cool climping a pipe, crawling unseen past the camera, then dropping behind a guard, putting him into a lock, and using him as a human body shield whilst shooting his friends, before interogating him then knocking him out, and hidiing there bodies then entering his access code to a gate.

I like the challege in Splinter Cell and the realistic gameplay, but the story bore me somtime. MGS have a more interesting storyline and the boss fight are an absolute fun. MGS is a little too easy some time, because you can run to check point and the threat is gone. I prefer MGS over SC, but they're both very good games.

DEFINITELY MGS:D!!!

1. MGS3 & MGS4 let you hide in the nature using camo which is another incredible add-on against SC...! 2. MGS has a big variety of weaporns and items! 3. The huge:P cutscenes give you the feeling that you play in a movie! 4. Boss fights! 5. Excellent graphics!
