Im sure this has been discussed before, but how is MGO? Im replaying the single player of MGS4 and am focusing much more on the gameplay. There is alot going on with cqc and whatnot. I messed around with MGO for a couple days about a year ago, but didn't pay much attention to it. How has it evolved? Do many people play it? Does it play like a third person shooter or is stealth and cqc implemented in an original and compelling way? Are the expansions worth getting?

I would give mgs4 a 7/10 only because the online is crap, and there is more cut scenes then gameplay. as a game 7/10 as a movie 10/10

It's great, don't listen to these scrubs. All they do is complain about the sign in process that is not even that bad.

The game it self though is metal gear solid, but online.

It's great actually, especially if you're playing it with headset. It's the same gameplay as single player as you probably already tried out already. You're automatically paired (if you want) with people of similar level and it plays very good.

It's not a fast paced COD4 or Killzone 2 battlefield but it's a good multiplayer in Metal Gear universe. Myself, I had a fantastic time with MGS4 and the franchise in general and to be able to take that experience online is pretty cool.

It's solid online - metal gear solid. ;)

MGO is a tactical multiplayer game and it is free, so there's that much, but its nothing like the single player. Getting into the game is a chore since it requires you to create numerous ID's and passwords. If you don't play as a team, it can be frustrating. Solo commando's get chewed up very quickly. You can do almost all the moves Snake can do in the single player game (to a degree as the NPC's, all of them while playing Snake) Most of the modes are generic, but they have their own flavor.

The levels where you play as snake are pretty fun, and you can play as the Mk3 to back him up, but there are a good bit of issues: The melee portion of the game is a good idea, but implemented pretty badly since you play in 3rd person, you can peak around corners to check for ambushes, making ambushes difficult to pull off. Headshots kill in 1 hit, while you may need to empty a whole clip into someone's chest in order to bring them down. Needless to say that its a headshot fest.

There is a ranking system, but it doesn't really help that much. You won't notice someone who's at max rank from a newb. Weapons come with a specific amount of ammo and when you are out, you are out till you respawn and select your weapon again.

There are a lot of tactic's/classes that you can choose though (mix and match), I.E. you can choose a trait that whenever you shoot someone, your whole team can see that enemy. Traits that make you a melee powerhouse (assuming you can get that close to someone), some make you a sniping nightmare (what most ppl do), some make you a sabateur by linking the enemies nano's to your own so your team can see them but they can't see you. And of course the gunner.

It does have a good bit of content that you can pay for and the community is fair. There arn't any glitches or hackers, but things can be kinda cheap I.E. some complain about spawn campers.

All in all, I would say that its a lot like Socom (and probably better imo) and it is free...but there are a lot of other shooters that do a better job. If you do give it a try, know that its an aquired taste. It will take longer to make an ID and get started than it will to decide if you like it or not. I hope that gives you a little more information to help make your decision to try it.

I edited it to make it easier to read, it just took me a sec. I make sure to explain everything fully instead of putting posts back to back like some people do. Its better than saying "it sucks" without giving an answer. I've actually played MGO quite a bit so i've got more to say. Don't like it? Don't read it.

Its fine, making the accounts are a drag, but after the long update, its pretty good. Although when your up against level 11's, its frustrating. I like the customization, and yea.

after 1/2days installing the darn thing, i found it rather rubbish. Took ages to find a room i could get in with my requirements. Everyroom said i needed somthing like, high level, download extra maps etc. After ages finding one, the first room i got in to was just plain CQC, not guns what so ever. Second time which was 5 days later, i found a room where it was with guns, people actually working together, but after a while it was just slow, nothing more than running round, saying ''go go go, cover me, omg omg you shot me'' speech. I have to download it again as i kinda erased it, but i just couldnt get in to in. The MGS4 game, yes, thats def 600/10, but for online, na, its not that good, yet. You might like it, but at first, you be like me, waiting 16yrs to get in to a room, downloading etc. Im sure it be good later on =D

What the guy said about getting from level 0 upwards is one of the problems i had, it took forever to find a room. Thats one reason i didnt find it that good. When and if i download it again, maybe there might be an area where low levels can work there way up =]

Hey i actually played it! and thought it was one if not the worst online system i have played..

I couldn't write more because just thinking about it gets me so annoyed i can't gather my thoughts.. lol

It is half-assed, with decent ideas and poor execution.. if you have the game (which people should) then you might as well try it out.. If this was a game people would get just for online i would write a book on why they shouldn't, but its not.. You get this game because the single player.. So basically all they need to know is if they decide to take in online don't be surprised if you hate it..

There are always people who will hate and love something, there is never a time when they're all on one side.. And i am pretty certain the mass hates MGO (personal experience knowing people who have played it)..

its a good online game that favors skill to running and gunning and often brutally so. my only problem is that the progression system isnt too great, so it mgo doesnt last as long as you might like an online shooter to. though i havent tried the expansions so maybe they gave it some legs.

Its ok. But there are alot of elitist jerks in the game. And they make it to where you have to buy the expansions to do anything. Its kinda hard to find a game when you start out, but once you start to get up there in lvls it gets better.(that is if you have the expansions)

Don't listen to the first few posts seeing as they give NO REASON as to why its horrible other than Id's and updates which isn't about the gameplay itself. Now, its very tactical and I have to say addictive. Its evolved to a whole new level above MGS4, there are so many things you can do which you can't do in the singleplayer game. The community is rather hit or miss. Headshots are easy to get but don't go thinking this game requires no skill. Its about reflexes and pin point accuracy. Games are very tense, I was very into the game before but couldn't be bothered to buy expansions. Its a very fun game with a few flaws but if you're sick of running and gunning FPS games this is a nice change of pace.

Japanese all the way. Seriously, European and American community suck pretty bad on this game.
