MGO is a tactical multiplayer game and it is free, so there's that much, but its nothing like the single player. Getting into the game is a chore since it requires you to create numerous ID's and passwords. If you don't play as a team, it can be frustrating. Solo commando's get chewed up very quickly. You can do almost all the moves Snake can do in the single player game (to a degree as the NPC's, all of them while playing Snake) Most of the modes are generic, but they have their own flavor.
The levels where you play as snake are pretty fun, and you can play as the Mk3 to back him up, but there are a good bit of issues: The melee portion of the game is a good idea, but implemented pretty badly since you play in 3rd person, you can peak around corners to check for ambushes, making ambushes difficult to pull off. Headshots kill in 1 hit, while you may need to empty a whole clip into someone's chest in order to bring them down. Needless to say that its a headshot fest.
There is a ranking system, but it doesn't really help that much. You won't notice someone who's at max rank from a newb. Weapons come with a specific amount of ammo and when you are out, you are out till you respawn and select your weapon again.
There are a lot of tactic's/classes that you can choose though (mix and match), I.E. you can choose a trait that whenever you shoot someone, your whole team can see that enemy. Traits that make you a melee powerhouse (assuming you can get that close to someone), some make you a sniping nightmare (what most ppl do), some make you a sabateur by linking the enemies nano's to your own so your team can see them but they can't see you. And of course the gunner.
It does have a good bit of content that you can pay for and the community is fair. There arn't any glitches or hackers, but things can be kinda cheap I.E. some complain about spawn campers.
All in all, I would say that its a lot like Socom (and probably better imo) and it is free...but there are a lot of other shooters that do a better job. If you do give it a try, know that its an aquired taste. It will take longer to make an ID and get started than it will to decide if you like it or not. I hope that gives you a little more information to help make your decision to try it.
