Try Wikipedia. I'm serious, that's where I went to read up on the Killzone storyline.

you should REALLY REALLY play mgs1. other than being the original storyline of the mgs series, it is soooo much better than 2 imo.... after two, and if you feel like me in how you would not like 2, you prob would be discouraged to play 1.... so in my opinion, you should play 1 first... but if my pleas go on deaf ears, http://www.veoh.com/series/mgs?confirmed=1 that should do it. happy hunting with the dogtags :-D

If at all possible, play MGS1 first. It's worth it, you won't be thinking "oh man I wish I was just playing the PS2 one". If for some reason you have searched all the earth and can't find a copy of MGS1, then MGS2 will still be playable, although you'll miss a lot of the backstory and meaning behind a lot of the things that happen. MGS2 storyline is a bit complicated, adn without understanding MGS1, I can see someone getting lost and possibly frustrated with the story of MGS2. There are things within the game of MGS2 that you can read before you play the game that'll fill you in on the story so far, but there's seriously nothing like actually playing the game. PLAY MGS1!!!

They are all right playing MGS1 is a treat. Most PS1 titles are intolerable to play by me so i can understand your opinion. MGS1 and Castlevania: Symphony of the night, are both PS1 games that are better than 95% of ALL video games released on ANY console EVER. Pity to miss out on some fantastic titles.. Sorry to post off topic...

PLAY MGS1!!!!!!! You wont regret it.

i say buy MGS1 on the cube its really good but if not buy MGS2 substance theres a book written there that tells u the events of what happened in part one its really long tho more then 200 pgs but it tells u everything in detail.

P.S the remake of MGS1 on the gamecube is really good it rapes MGS2 IMO

You don't need to understand much from MGS1 to play MGS2 mainly cuz u frickin play as raiden. man i'm pissed off cuz right now im playing 2 and i want to frickin play as snake. Can't wait to beat this and head onto 3 because i'm not having too much fun with raiden.

if you want, you can download 30 selected cut scenes from MGS1 from this site.

MGS1 however is an AMAZING game that i would obviously (by sig) recommend you to play. If by any chance you have a GameCube you can buy the MGS1 remake called "Twin Snakes". Updated graphics and all.

Try and fing MGS1 first. Your eyes may bleed from the graphics and the game might feel dated but you should play through it anyway.

Yeah.. No, that game is a disgrace to MGS. It's scenes were replaced by anime bullcrap and the controls sucked.

I dunno, MGS1 and FFVII are two PS1 games I can play without being bothered by graphics.

play the MGS1 first! MGS2 recreates the events of MGS1 with a new charracter (raiden), it will make more sense. IDK which is my favorite but just know that after i played MGS2 i loved solidsnake so much more!

Note the reason Kojima used raiden as a new charracter was so u can get to know solid snake better, through another perspective. Similar to sherlock holmes novels, those books where all about sherlock holmes but seen through is assistants point of view.

if you are done with mgs3, i don't think you can easily accept to play mgs1 for ps1/2 because the graphics are so lame. I suggest you play mgs1 gamecube version.

MGS1 may be the best, but your going to need to play MGS2 storywise if you want to get MGS4. Because the events of 4 are right after 2 so it makes sense.

Part 1 was the best in the whole series, you missed out man.

Part 2 is the worse, bad story, ok gameplay.

Like everybody else said you need to play 1 to understand the story of part 2. If the graphics bother you, buy a used Gamecube (they're cheap like $75) and a used copy of MGS: Twin Snakes which is remake of part 1 with better graphics than part 2.

3 was the only game where you didn't need to play the other games to understand the plot.

yeah, this is about right. also the narrative of mgs2 is about the inferiority of sequels (clones and whatnot), but also thereby about mgs2 as a sequel driven game franchise, and the pressure put on a sequel to live up to and exceed the 'greatness' of the original. mgs1 is a seriously great game that should be played before 2,3, or 4. that said, mgs2 is my favorite thus far, in part because the narrative is so intelligently written, and it complicates the gameplay and the game players relationship to thet characters in a really compelling way.

you should REALLY REALLY play mgs1. other than being the original storyline of the mgs series, it is soooo much better than 2 imo.... SikKwuN

i would totally agree with that. great game. there seems to be this idea with some people that because they have a flashy ps3 they cant/wont go back and play older games just coz the graphics aren't so good. honestly, i think the graphics are the only real thing that differentiates mgs1 and 3. everything else about that game is excellent. the story, the characters, even the controls haven't aged and were probably considered a lot less cluncky than most of the games from that era.

plus also, mgs2 is quite continuity heavy and so you'd be best to play it first and get a grip of the story first. yes, you could read it on wikipedia, but you dont get to crawl through many ventilation shafts and hide behind tanks when you take that option...:)

Metal Gear 1+2 on the nes are nifty to play one you play the 3d ones just because you get to see where the game came from.

Metal gear solid on the ps1 had such a good story and you kinda grow attached to the characters that you meet and by the end of the game you're just like "HELL YEAH Snake is one awesome dude" .

If you do happen to play twin snakes the remake of mgs after you play the original You'll just flick your TV screen of for the reasons of...

1. The altered scenes.

2. It's on the gc for some odd reason.

3. THEY JUST WRECKED THE AMBIANCE OF THE GAME!

Metal gear solid 2 of the Ps2... I was fond of getting my ps2 and poping the disc in and just saying "WOW LOOK AT THE GRAPHICS!!". By the end of the game, you'll still have enjoyed it but you will notice that it is inferior compared to the first mgs due to the fact that you lay as raiden and we all know he's just lame.

Metal gear solid 3 supposedly Kojima's last MGS(I pretty sure he said it was gonna be his last) which is basically a prequel and mare kickass than mgs2 because it has more of a rambo/James bond feel to it. I got said thinking about somebody saying it was Kojima's last mgs... but then!

METAL GEAR SOLID 4 WE all know how much ass this will kick. Basically peoples heads will EXPLODE when the game finally comes out.

That's my 2 cents.

MGS was the greatest game on the PSOne. You should definitely play it first, because if you don't know (and care about) what happened in MGS, you won't like MGS2 at all.

im downloading the videos for mgs1 right now thanks to SikKwuN. i tried to find MGS1 last week but was unsuccessful even though ill admit i didnt try that hard. it just seems easier to learn about the plot for the first then move on by playing 2.
