I've never played any of the other games from the series and many people told me that in order to play MGS 4 i should play the others first.

Do you tjink that i have to play the other 3 games to enjoy this one or not?

You don't have to play the others but it would help you understand the story a LOT more. There are a lot of hidden references to the previous games within MGS4.

I just wanted to add that if you can play the other metal gear games then you really should. They are all masterpieces.

Ok, I'm tired of explaining it so I'll just sum it up; no.

If you play Metal Gear Solid 4 without playing Metal Gear Sold 1, 2, and 3 first, your saliva will turn into acid and you'll spontaneously combust.

i'd say you should play the others first. If you play mgs4 then try to go back and play mgs1, you'd probably not give it a fair chance due to old gen graphics. There is a box set with mgs 1-2-3 in it but you'll need a ps2 compatible machine.

I have a 60gb ps3 so that is not an issue.

The only problem is that i cant find the other 3 games in separate or that package that you refered.

PS: i'm from Portugal

I wanted to try MGS 4 since launch but since i never payed the other 3 I never tried MGS 4.

And thats why I posted this question in this forum.

you could download the Metal Gear Solid Database thing and read everything, it's boring, longer, cheaper and no fun at all.

You have to play the other 3 so you can compare and contrast to MGS 4. Once you experience the other games, you'll most likely prefer any of the others to 4. Don't believe me? Topics are out there just search for them. The same applies to Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy, and (most likely) Resident Evil.

u would b better off playing or watching the first ones. storyline wise, go with number 3, then 1, and then 2. they r all great games, so it wont b a waste.

Well MGS 4 was my first (and currently only) venture into the MGS series, but after finishing it I dl'd the MGS Databse and have spent a few hours reading through entries in that, which really helped fill some gaps.

it's great if you play MGS 4... but it would be best if you play 'em all...
