well it has some intense violence and occasional language.

it isn't too bad of a game if you compare it to others.

I would say so. Nothing you wouldn't experience in a PG-13 movie.

you cant forget beauty shoot!!

I would say some parental guidance would be needed because when background of B&b's are told its pretty bad.

Would you let the kid watch Predator, or Total Recall? If not then no.

a 12 year old should be fine playing MGS4, though he/she might not fully understand the story.

compared to the mature rating of Grand Theft Auto 4. It is'nt anywhere close. If it wasnt for the language i think it would be rated T.

My brother's 12, and he has no problem with MGS4.

He probably understands the MGS series better than most people.

He plays tons of M rated games, and due to his maturity, he can handle it very well.

Don't udnerestimate kids nowadays. Given the right environment, they can adapt to anything.

I began playing M games when Mortal Kombat 1st debuted.

But let's not forget the coughing up blood scenes in this game. This also includes Laughing Octopus puking a huge amount of blood /ink or whatever it was when you defeat her.

M rated games are not really all that bad really I grew up on r rated movies and mortal kombat games its just that we as Americans let 2 or 3 completely idiotic PARENTS raise stupid kids that have never been explained right from wrong get their hands on this stuff and ruin it for everybody else almost every child in my family have been exposed to things we deem inappropriate for their age but have been fine so as long as this 12 year old is not already doomed playing mgs should be fine I'm sure he/she has already heard every curse word in the entire game

Really mgs4 isnt that bad of a video game, some few cuss words here and there, and also smoking as well, but overall its not that bad, you dont even have to kill anybody other then the boss battles, you can basically sneak through the whole game unnoticed, might be kind of difficult though ;)

Okay, I'll respond: rated M games are NOT for your age group. See this is the problem right here is underage kids who can't wait their turn and decide to play something that was made for an ADULT and not a TEENAGER. My suggestion is to find cool game that are rated E. If anybody tries to argue this point see item: the teenagers who decided to act on their GTA IV fantasies and decided to jack cars and injure civilians. Okay?!

I think he should be allowed to play mgs4 if he is up to the challenge that is , and to stay away from games like gta, at least until he gets older :P, but metal gear solid 4 is not that bad when you compare to other games like cod4, haze, or gta iv (that basically takes the cake for mature gamers ;) . , anyways in mgs4 if your playing the story mode, you dont even have to hurt nobody, you can sneak through out the whole game with out touching a fly, its the most tatical game out for a reason  :P.

Well a 12 year old isn't technically supposed to be playing even T games...:|

Even if they are mature, they would have to have quite a head on their shoulders because the story of MGS4 is extremely complex. That wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a very story-driven game, but MGS4 is basically half movie and half game. So even if they are "mature" I don't know if it would be the right game for them.

I don't suppose the mature 12 year old wrote this thread, did they? ;)

The story will stomp their brain but yea, it should be okay. the gore/blood isn't over the top.

as noted before though the B&B backstory is quite gruesome.

lolol so true. So far i would say its not too far fetched for a mature 12 YO to play. yeah there is violence and a crazy story, but nothing really over the top or gory. id say play it with him and gauge his reaction.

I don't have much faith in a twelve year old that pushes an "I'm mature" argument.

Nonetheless, if you are eager to play the game, there is an option that should eliminate blood from the game. I have no idea how useful the option is, but if need be, I can try it out later. However I'm not sure if anything can be done about the language.

Doesn't anyone remember playing Splatterhouse or NARQ? There was no ESRB back then and somehow the youth managed to not kill all their peers and authoritative figures. It's about time parents started taking responsibility for their crappy parenting.

Christ, whats wrong with some of these parents!
I played the complete mgs franchise. 1998 when the first part came out I was 9 years old! I enjoyed that game so much it still warms my heart when I played through the nostalgic parts in MGS4. Dont deny your kids these kind of games just becuase of a stupid sticker on the box art. I was born in Holland so maybe we're abit more open minded about this sort of thing but I would even go as far as saying GTA 4 is appropriate for a 12 year old. Unless you have some screwed up or very sensisitive kid at home there is no reason to think that a kid of that age is not capable of understanding, enjoying or dealing with a game like MGS or any other game for that matter. Specially in MGS4 the violence is done with styl3 and not just put in the game for the sake of being violent. I played all these kind of games at that age even Resident Evil and Silent Hill. I dont recall nightmares of any sort or ever having felt inspired to go carjacking or shooting up my block.

It's alright, just the bosses are a bit weird in a not-good way. And you probably should skip Drebins calls following the fights. They're quite graphic.

yeah, you'll be alright. Yet, if you're not familiar with the story, you might be "less than excited" about the cut scenes... if you're considering mgs4, might as well try the essential mgs collection for the ps2. Just a suggestion mr. mature 12 year old :) .

Nope, no good. It's all about violence, death, war, and more violence. I don't think there are any mature 12 year olds, nobody is mature until they get to be at least 25. Anyway, it shouldn't be played unless you're 18 and up.

Nope, no good. It's all about violence, death, war, and more violence. I don't think there are any mature 12 year olds, nobody is mature until they get to be at least 25. Anyway, it shouldn't be played unless you're 18 and up.SPD_WeBmAsTaH
