Unfortunately, yeah. Well, I have MGS2 Substance, but I found it really hard to get into, due to the massively complicated controls. However, sometime before MGS4 comes out, I will probably rent 1, and 3, just to get a bearing on the basic story. I heard 2 was one of the worst in the series.0rin
Bad controls? mgs 2 is the worst one but story wise once you understand it...good game. I don't really care about mgs noobs it just means that they will be easier for me to take down in MGO2 :P I'm really wondering if metal gear online will suffer the same fate as the mgs3 one though...
yeah, the trailer was really cool and I'll be buying the Anniversary pack so I can learn about the story before I play 4UltimateGogeta
I didn't know that there was a pack that contained all the MGS games. Do you know how much it will cost and will it come out the same day MGS 4 comes out?
yeh I could agree, im a huge fan, im not gonna sit here and lie because believe me i've read posts of people beating MGS1 like 50times, which I highly doubt, but my stats go as follows:
NES: Reveng of Snake ..........Half way through, never completed (I was 9 and the damn spot lights always got me)
PS1: MGS1.........Once
PS2: MGS2 Substisance.........3times, Once on the Exbox
PS2: MGS3 Substisance........about 5 times (just because I really want to beat that guy on youtube's record on his MGS3 speed run)
PSP: Portable OPS........Got as far as unlocking the "Town" mission and sending a few troops out for more intel. I like it alot don't get me wrong, but that damn PSP screen keeps my eyes burning, keep in mind I work at the Marriot Hotel, so I use this device to surpass bordom........
but yeh that's my progress as of now, I plan on making MGS4 the first game I would ever play 10+ times, I'm shooting for 22 which is the age I would be when purchasing it......

I've played mgs1 more times than it is possible to count.. to give you an example After completing the games a bunch of times unlocking all the extras and becoming the king at it :p I read a rumour that if you complete the games 12 times in a row you got to play as meryl ...so I did...You did not in fact get to play as meryl..but that was not the lst time I completed that game :P
MGS2 arguably my most played ps2 game... bought it when it came out completed it 3 times in a row and probably an aveerage of once a month for the years after it.. (2 years ago my ps2 broke down so I bought substance for the pc :P)
MGS3 - Only 3 times... Don't know why..
MGA - Haven't even completed it once.. its not cannon :P
MGA2 - If I haven't even completed one what makes you think I'd buy this one :P ( I will if I ever see it very cheap.. just to have it)
MGPO - have not bought it yet only just came out in my hood.
And I'm going to buy the anniversary pack.. It will be mine..oh yes it will be mine.
PS2: MGS2 Substisance.........
PS2: MGS3 Substisance.......

lol substisance? were you just lazy so you combined them both? its mgs2: substance and mgs3: subsistence... metal gear taught me that word :) ha! I need to make a thread saying that its a lie that you learn nothing from games.
Most definitely not. I've beaten MGS about 120+ times, MGS 2 70+ and MGS3 around 50.
Also, yes. I have ALOT of free time on my hands.
I didn't vote, but that's because there wasn't an option for my case.
I first tried out MGS 2 on the Xbox, but quit a few hours after the game switched to being focused on Raiden. (I remembered people griping about MGS 2 when I bought it, but didn't recall it was because of the character switch until I got to that part.)
Figuring I must not have liked the game largely because of Raiden, I went ahead and picked up MGS:TS for the Gamecube. Unlike with 2, I managed to make it through the end of the game but not without eyestrain from all of the eyerolling I was doing at the silly cutscenes and other exposition.
My tastes are just too focused on interaction and immersiveness as a player to enjoy a game that involves so much kicking back and watching the story unfold in cutscenes. If I wanted to watch something, I'd put in a DVD. Same goes for more recent FF games.

Definately got a point there, but as you play a MGS multiple times, you'll start catching new things in every cut scene. Besides, it wasn't till I played MGS the 3rd time that I accidentially found out that I could just skip right through fighting "The End", I never knew you were able to avoid fighting that lil old guy cause he's a pain in the you know what, but like I said, try each title more than once, and you'll see you'll like it more with the unlockable guns you get. Also, if you play a game after the first time, I'd doubt you have to continue watching all the cut scenes, that's what the "X" button is there for my friend

Yes, thankfully you can skip the cutscenes. I ended up doing that in places when it just seemed like they were never going to end.
Without getting too much into it, there are some other reasons why I didn't care for either of the entries I played. Though, I'll skip that discussion as I don't want to seem like I'm only here to bash the series. Though, games being so focused on using cinematic elements to deliver the experience is something I just don't care for. Replays through the game aren't going to help with that.
lol wat does mgs stand for??????????GODFATHERVII
lmao i was waitin for someone to vote on that one...wow

I hope your not serious. anyway, it stood for Metal Gear Solid.

2 wasn't bad I liked it, and btw you need to play 2 to understand MGS4.
I have played them all and own them all. I have the original 8 bit versions also.
It's sad to know that MGS4 is the last game of the series. I have seen the development of this franchise and I fully understand the story line and the order everything took place in. This alone is rare.
I do hope MGS goes out with a bang. The controls are dated and need to be fixed. It would be nice to see MGS4 finally bring the franchise up to speed with controls and camera angles. If they succeed at this, it would also be sad to see the only MGS game with great controls was the last one.
For you Fan Boys that could never see any bad in a MGS game, if you are honest with yourself, you will agree that the controls of MGS3 Snake Eater where totally bad and this is why Subsistence came out. Even with the improvements in Subsistence, you still have broken controls.
Example:
You can aim and shoot while running in 3rd person with no real control of your shots. You can aim and shoot in first person with accuracy, but you can't move. This is just bad.
You can crawl in 3rd person mode with camera control in Subsistence, but if you venture off into high grass, you are switched to first person and can't see your surroundings. Again, it's broken.
The akward independant movement of the camera vs. the character are just bad and the finall boss fight in Subsitence takes away your camera control as if they game was the Snake Eater version.
This was a bad game when you look at it from an honest point of view. I still enjoyed the story and I like some parts of the game, but Hideo needs to come clean with MGS4.
been a fan since MGS 1 on Playstation.my wishis for Kojima to re-release Metal Gear Solid 1 for ps3. heck even ps2 re-release would be amazing.
never played MGS1
played MGS2 but never finished it
played MGS3 finished it and loved it. best game ever IMO :)
