A PS2 vs a PS3 game on the graphs department, uh?? sounds like a fair fight to me.
Anyway, storywise I prefer MGS3 any day. It was AMAZING, and while MGS4 was amazing too, it could get boring at some points. Plus you can't beat MGS3 ending, it's EPIC.

I actually think the ending points between Snake and Ocelot/Liquid OCelot were equally awesome. There was brotherly love mixed in with intense hate and some admiration. It makes for such a good story point. Hideo Kojima is a genius.

Completely agree, from the final fight until the credit it was awesome, MGS4 ending was too long it took the excitement from it.
MGS3
Had my favorite story. It was so damn emotional too. ;_;
I like the stealth element in this the best (except freaking switching camos every 2 seconds).
I would have liked the Survival Viewer if there was something in there that let me heal everything at once.
Bosses were the best in the series. Cobra Unit was pure win.
Snake Eater ladder climbing, lol
MGS4
Visuals = omg
The story was great too.
Gameplay = loved it.
Final boss fight = most emotional gaming experience I've ever had since the ending to MGS3 and FFX
Music was made of win.
Overall, I love both games a lot. However, you can't beat the fact that MGS4 pretty much upped everything but the story. Actually, this is exactly why the MGS franchise is my favorite of all. Kojima, you're a genius.

I'm talking about the ending here... not the final fight (which was great IMO and done in a superb way in MGS4). Sadly, like star said, it's too damn long and there are boring parts (IMO) that took away the excitement, honestly it didn't make me feel as touched as its predecessor.

I can agree with that. But at least Kojima would put int he time to show more of the ending, even if some of it was boring. The ending of both games were pure epic.
I would say that metal gear solid 4 is better in everything,but there is a big problem,the story of metal gear solid 4 has to many to every other metal gear so if you haven't played at metal gear solid 2(even being the most "unpopular" game of the saga,the most important part of the story of the saga is told here) you will miss too many details to understand the story. and MGS 3 has some important details,the best thing to do is play the first 3 games before playing number 4. If you haven't played any metal gear try to get the integral collection first.

Yes I agree that MGS4 ending was also awesome ( the one that starts with Big Boss) the end where they both showed respect to each other and all, but the cutscense before that were not that exciting and were too long even the cutscense with Big Boss was long the final scene was the best. The reason I liked the ending of MGS3 more is because the explanation of the event kept going with other scene parts which worked great with the ending
*Spoilers*
I've played all of them, but nothing beats the ending of MGS4.
"This is good.......isn't it?" - That line really sent chills up my spine at the end. You just knew the series could be over finally tafter that was said. And if MGS5 is ever made, I hope they don't tamper with the story too much, considering pretty much all of the open holes were shut at the end of MGS4.

Uhh...I think he was asking which game has better visuals in accordance with the time they came out. He just didn't word it very well.
Both games are great, but to ask which is better is unfair considering that they are on different platforms! IMO every MGS game has gotten better, and I would recommend you purchase all 4 of them... you wont regret it!TrevCubsOr21
I really dont understand how ppl pick MGS4 over MGS1 or any other MGS games. I mean the game is about 16 hrs but if i subtract the cutscenes and the fact i was playing around alot, the game play lenth is 5hrs
MGS3
-Overall better story
MGS4
- Best end boss
-Best boss of all time
-Visuals :shock:
- gameplay
- OctoCamo
-Raiden
Best story, most cohesive in depth gameplay with varied scenarios, best AI, best soundtrack, overall most "solid" game in the series = MGS2.
Best boss fights, coolest concepts, awesome artistic direction, best VAs, most atmospheric, best ending = MGS3.
Best graphics, most versitile control scheme = MGS4.
Original bad ass = MGS1.

As time passes the shock of the newness will wear off and people will come to see MGS4 in a true light. Actually if you visit many MGS boards you will see it has already begun. It was the same way with MGS3 when it released. Everyone thought it completely destroyed the others, but as time went on people started to notice that for every step it took forward, it took a step back as well. Because of this there is no absolute best MGS, just preferences and thats it. Each game in the series has its strengths and weaknesses. The series doesnt progressively get better in all aspects as a few seem to believe. The majority of fans already see MGS4s story as worst in series unanimously. Not that its bad, it just doesnt stand up to the rest of the series. As for gameplay that will always be up to the individual. I prefer MGS2 for having the best AI, very responsive controls and level layout that melds perfectly with the gameplay mechanics. Every move has its use yet no individual move is overpowered a la MGS3/4 one slam stun. I also enjoy that MGS2 gives the player different stealth scenarios apart from sneaking from point a to point b. Also the fact that extreme offers a challenge that MGS3 and 4 lack. Others prefer MGS3 because it ditches the on your toes stealth action for a more campy feel and the open environments add a lot of choice for the player. While I feel the food/cure/backpack systems were needless tack ons others enjoy them. It is hard to deny MGS3 has some amazing boss fights. Some prefer MGS4 for the westernized control scheme and overall simplified gameplay with more emphasis on action. Those were turn offs for me though. I will admit that the octocam is definitely an improvement over the MGS3 camo system and that cqc was much more refined. Like I said though, there is no wrong answer, each game has its own individual quirks that appeal to different people.Graphics wise obviously MGS4 no doubt about it, but MGS3 story took my breath away and why the game is called snake eater is because of the cobras. Torture etc. now that is a true freakin mission, for me MGS3 is the best metal gear solid that was ever made
Are you serious?? MGS4 looks better obviously but MGS3 is the best in my OPINIONWhat has better visuals story elements and all that good stuff.

Both are amazing, best gaming experiences by far.
Apart from the obvious gameplay and graphics upgrades, MGS4 tops it though, in the story, direction and script department as well. No other game in the series has memorable scenes as Volta, Snake VS Liquid or the Debriefing which are pretty much as good as a storytelling scene can be in terms of direction and script. The actual story in MGS4 is the most elaborate as well, and even though it needs the other games in order to reach the full climax, it is without a doubt the most impressive and ultimatelly satisfying of them all.
While still amazing experiences (and holding numbers 3 and 4 in my book), MGS1 and 2 are in an inferior league compared to 3 and 4 in pretty much every way. Some really need to replay them without the nostalgia googles on.
So basically you want to know which Metal Gears do we like the best?
MGS,4,3,PO,2(Its last because you play as a *****)

He didn't win the award just because of MGS4. The man brought the stealth genre to the gaming world and he brought it with an amazing plot like no other that lasted 20 years, FLAWLESSLY. No other series managed to stay that long having 1 long storyline. He won the award because of the following games:
Metal Gear
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots
The man is a gaming legend.He deserves more.
