There is a difference but i wonder why they downgrade the graphics? The 2005 did say it was real time. FPS = forget prerendered stuff.

the answer lies on the psn on one of the heavenly sword videos my freind....daveg1
I barely think that MGS4 is too much for PS3. It's too early for that.
to be honest, i would dstill buy the game even its on the PS2. AND please stop saying its coming to the 360 because its not!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People like u make stupid rumours which is why hideo kojima is pissed off about. It's not coming out so shut it.sim_dude_uk
Quit being so sensitive and I'm not trying to spread any rumors. It's just a feeling I have based on the way this thing has been handled by Kojima and Konami. If Kojima doesn't want people to ask about MGS4 going multi-platform than he should give a more concrete answer to that question because "not at this junction" doesn't cut it. I'm as big a PS3 fanboy as anyone and I want MGS4 to be PS3 exclusive forever and I want the game to totally take advantage of the PS3 hardware so we have something to point to as a game that can't done on any other system.
All I know is I'm not impressed with the graphics in MGS4 compared to other PS3 games. Allot of the textures on walls and other surfaces pale in comparison to games like Ratchet & Clank: Future and Uncharted. This game looks good but it doesn't look like it's using the full capabilities of the PS3. I have a feeling this game will eventually go to the 360 so they didn't want to cram it full of huge high detail textures like we see in first party PS3 games cause then they couldn't fit it on a DVD.jdt532
That's crap. Kojima was going on about how they are utilising Blu Ray to the fullest, including adding about 9gb or so of uncompressed sound.
Why would they skimp on the graphics then if the sound alone would take up one entire hd-dvd?
it turned out that PS3's RSX was not as powerful as some of us have thought

Perhaps audio is easier to downgrade by using compression or 5.1 surround sound instead of 7.1, graphic on the other hand can't easily be downgraded. They would have to spend allot of time re-doing the entire game by removing allot of the high detail textures and replacing them with low detail ones.

That story was retracted and it turns out that the RSX is actually faster than a GeForce 7800...

dude kojima said he isnt focusing on graphics but more on gameplay and the story. now imagine if he did focus on the graphics. it looks amazing now. i mean R&C looks beautiful but you cant compare these types of graphics since they arent the same. yea some walls look a bit blad or watever you said, but its comin out 2008, im sure they can tweak it up by then

i agree i was really upset when i saw the new videos, but the gamplay video made me happy again!
Well, I would expect the graphics to be downgraded as they added more things to the game. Not only that, but the PS3 was downgraded a bit from the original specs.
Watching MGS in motion the textures looked pretty good to me, but in screen shots I definately notced the low quality textures. Doesnt really bother me though.
Maybe it's just me, but I think the differences in the graphics are mostly lighting styles and filters. I think the character detail is nearly identical. The older trailers had more HDR style lighting and better contrast. Stuff like this is usually what gets added and polished in the later stages of developement. I think that the final build of the game will be much more like the old trailers.
And I don't know how many of you remember all the trailers that came out for MGS2 leading up to it's release. I have the Document of MGS2(which is kind of a 'making of MGS2' disc). On the disc you can watch the 10 or so trailers that were released up until the games launch.Watching them in order, you can see graphics upgrades from one to the next. As the team got more familiar with the PS2, the graphics just kept getting better. There's a huge difference between the first trailer and the final game.
Then we all saw the difference going from MGS2 to MGS3. Kojima's team really is clever when it comes to getting the most out of Playstation hardware. Even MGS on PS1 was really impressive compared to the other platforms games.
It's the same with the PS3 and maybe even more so.
