MGS4, will it be fun for somebody never has played the series before?

I am sure it's a f@#%@$^% great game, but I started playing PS3 games like 18months ago, will it be entertaining for someone like me I never played the series before? don't get offended, i've seen the previews and it's awesome!!! can you guys please advice or I should skip, I'll be sad though if I skipt it, but I think I am just going to get it anyway, thanks.

I've never played a Metal Gear Solid game before and I loved it. My best advice is to get the Essential Collection and play them in order and if you like them, get Metal Gear Solid 4. The Essential Collection is only $30 too so you will be paying half the price for 3 games.eric252

This is the best route for people who don't have any experience with the series. If you don't want to play the Essentials Collection, then AT THE VERY LEAST watch the retrospectives on gametrailers.com until you have a fairly good grasp on the storyline.

Thanks to all for the replies, it's appreciated, I am a 36yrs old dude, I think I am just going to watch retrospective and then play the game, where do I go to watch the basics or retrospective?
