mhf2: tigrex tooth issue pls help

There are some times when i use my Tigrex tooth to slash something, a black/dark purple sparkle appears. This happens like 1 out of 5 hits. Can someone please tell me what this means? (PS Tigrex tooth has no elemental attack) Thanks a bunch ^_^
