I was a PS2 gamer for all of last generation. Loved it. I been a 360 for all of the current generation. Loved it. But it broke down recently (no video display + overheating = non functinoal 360) and so now im sitting here console-less and itching to game. I have a ton of good friends on Xbox 360 and i love their xbox live service. also have a lot of money put into the 360 games i have and rock band downloads. Im scared though if i buy a new Arcade 360 that it will break again soon (my last 360 only lasted 2 and a half years) and I don't want to keep shelling out more money on it like a PC. the PS3 intrigues me because it has some good exclusives I want to try, it has a blue-ray player, and it's far more reliable system. I also have background history of using the Playstations seeing as how i was a PS1 and PS2 gamer to death.

Playing games is my first priority, then online communication is my 2nd. Should i dump what I have (360 games + wireless adapter and rock band controllers) and save up for a PS3 and start from scratch? Will i be wowed by the online service PS3 has to offer? Is there promise that the online service will be better? what can i do as far as communication on the PS3 and also how does the community compare? I love Xbox live and think it's great and i dont know if i could handle seeing a step down in the online service. But are the PS3 games really better? Would it be worth giving up everything I have put into the 360 to switch to the 360? Or do you guys think that it's best i spend $200 on a new 360 and stick with what I have. I do have a 32 inch lcd hdtv btw.

If you've already invested that much into your 360 I would sitck with it. I have both consoles and I think XBL is a better online experiance than PSN. If you really want a PS3 just save up and buy one and you can have both because I learned that it's never a good idea to sell a console.

PSN probably isn't as good as XBL when it comes to extra features, but you can play 60 man matches lag-free, so if you really only care for the gaming aspect, PSN will be fine.

But if I was in your situation, I'd probably stick with the 360, although you need to buy another console it's still cheaper than the PS3 and at least you have, what I assume, is a decent library of games and friends to play with.

yah that's the thing, mine lasted 2 and a half years and its been my only one. i heard the new 360's have jasper chipsets which are suppose to be reliable. Right now im leaning towards buying a 360 and buying a ps3 down the road.

Well, I did the same thing. My 360 died 3 times last year and the cord died annother time. So, I switched to the Ps3, And I love it. It seems about the same. Less people with headsets, but that is okay.

Current systems have no BC. Your 360 isnt covered under the 3 year warranty? As far as getting a PS3, its kind of expensive compared to a 360 arcade, double the price is a pretty big deal, and you say you have a lot of friends with 360 online service. I seriously doubt you will be absolutely wowed by anything except for maybe a game or two. Ive played the 360 a lot and think they both look great graphically, unless you really get specific youre not going to find a huge difference in the graphics. Ive been a playstation fan since the first day the original playstation came out which is why I have a PS3. I guess it comes down to how important a blu-ray player is to you and how uch the exclusives mean to you.

First off compared to Live! I found the PSN service a little bit more dodgy connection wise(then again why complain if it's free right?)...The community is about the same except alot fewer people seem to have mics. If you've been on Live!, PSN isn't exactly "wowing". As for the games being better (exclusives I'm guessing) it's up to taste really....personally I wouldn't think it was worth it, then again I'm still sifting through quite a back-log of older PS3 games I haven't played and have pretty much played every 360 exclusive minus Halo 3 (hehehe of all the games eh?) so I'm not the best opinion on that one.

if anything, the ps3 should be an add-on to your collection NOT a replacement. You've investeted so much funds and time into the 360, that it would be silly to make a complete switch. In terms of online services, PSN is fantastic IMHO, but i don't think i can compare the services because this isn't SW. Same thing with the games, but it shouldn't be too difficult to see which games came out already and which are coming out in the future. The PS3 is a great system/entertainment center with a solid collection of quality games but i wouldn't sell my whole collection in exchange for one. But by all means if you don't care about the financial loss, do as you please.

give it a year or two and 360s will be like the old xbox,,
its already using 97% of its power just running halo3
sonys ps3 is only using like 30% running killzone 2 and it looks 1000000 times better
so i wonder what console is gunna last
at least with the ps3 you dont get that stupid 'bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz' noise grrr
i hate 3fix-me's (360s) now i cant stand them
people buy them because there cheap
been working in gamestation for 2 years now and only seen two faulty ps3 and one had a dent in :S

you need a ps3 for
lbp
mgs4
killzone
resistance 60 player online
gt5
....do it
:D

I think PS3 is a great system, and the 360 is good to. I have both, and I've had my 360 longer. I bought a ps3 for a few reasons. 1, the exclusives appeal to me more than the 360 exclusives. 2, it is reliable like you said. 3, the features you can do(browse internet, blu-ray, other spiffy things like that) and 4, I got a freaking awesome deal. It was a black friday deal(any of you know about it?). You signed up for their sony credit card and got 150 off your ps3 purchase. Yeah, basically got a brand new 80gb for 276. Then I got some deals at a gamestop, buy 2 get one free used...ended up getting MGS4, Warhawk, and Resistance 1 for only 58 something altogether. So yeah, those games are making me crave my ps3 right now. Can't wait to get R2, LBP, Uncharted, R&C, Heavenly Sword, KZ2, gosh so many I want lol.

But I still have my 360. I guess in all honesty I want to sell it, but it IS good to have it around. You do get to play the exlcusives that aren't on ps3, gears and such, so that's always good. Plus more of my friends have 360's, so that is a better thing, but in all honest I don't play it anymore cause I have a ps3...and it's entertaining me A LOT.

In terms of online, it really depends what you want. As one guy said above, if you're just going for online gaming, ps3 will feel right at home because it's free to play online games. You can do all that downloading stuff from the PSN as well, and most of the themes are free for your ps3...unlike the xbox(which ticks me off, they make you pay for everything). Yeah, but XBL does have that cross game chat and you get a mic with purchase of system, so yeah, it does have more people communicating. I admit though, i never use the mic anyway cause people either just trash talk or DON't talk. I only use it for my friends.

So, there is my opinion. I'll leave the rest up to you.
