Quick question:

I'm trying to decide about getting either a ps3 or xbox 360. I heard that the ps3 sometimes doesn't run in 1080i when it should, has sony fixed this?

Also how is the online community, I know that xbox 360 has a great online system, how is the free ps3 online system for games such as madden and call of duty?

Thanks!!

I've got the 60gig version - running it with hdmi and optical on a hd lcd tv. I've rarely see it run in 1080i if ever, usually it runs 720p or 1080p. As far as I know the problem is solved by running only in progressive format. I don't have a real definitive answer for you on that though.

The online community is quite good I think. Warhawk is always full of servers running games - connections are always great, i never get booted. Call of Duty 4, plenty of games there - very easy to log in and start playing right away - CoD4's online is a big thing these days even after all this time. Its a great first person shooter and i've always had a blast playing it online. Wipeout HD - full of tournaments and races going on. Because the Ps3's online is free i'm not surprised to see more people on. These days people already have to pay for the internet, its a hassle to pay again just to use it on your game console.

It rots the 360 owners have to pay for their subscription. Though i'm sure its just as nice.

google is your friend, it has to do with how the television receives and deciphers the signal

1080i is interlaced scanning. like how sdtv's run but ages superior. 1080 p is progressive & runs throughout the entire tv screen instead of "interlaced" which scans half screen & is doubled, hence "interlaced"

i call bs!

as to the TC, not many people tvs or movies use any "i" format anymore. most things have gone progressive. of course there are a few that'll run at 720p and 1080i. but you don't need 1080i. 720p looks better than it(imo).

I've got a 26" HD LCD w/1080i max. 60gig PS3 from 2007. Never had a problem.

The online is just fine. Sony plans to make it bigger and more unified with the release of Home (Home will be free).
