MOH online pass question

So, I know EA is all into their online passes and what not, but I was wondering if it is possible to play MOH online without it. From what I've read it seems like the online pass just unlocks the additonal maps that they've released like they did for BC2, but still let you play the online without it. I'm only asking this because I've had troubles with the BC2 servers and I'd like to get MOH used first to see if it works then return it if it does and get it new.

I think you still can, not entirely sure though.
