I know there have been topics about this before, but why did Uncharted get such a low score? I've seen people talk about how the review is an XBOX fan, which I find it funny that he doesn't even seem to own a Playstation 3 or played any games on it besides this. But aside from that, even he only talks about how great the game is...through the ENTIRE REVIEW.

In fact, the only negative thing he says throughout the whole thing is that gameplay is quite difficult. So why?

He also clearly states that the platforming is a little too forgiving. And the close up combat is nearly impossible to pull off.

I think it shouldve gotten a higher score a 9.0 but everyone has his or her own opinions about games.

I have a feeling the guy started the game on Crushing, because I haven't had any problems getting through the game until I got to Crushing difficulty (see blog for details).

Yeah, that's weird, but who uses Gamespot's reviews anymore?

I guess if you're going to give it an 8, then you should give at least a few more faults than what was said. Otherwise, bump the score up if you've got nothing negative to say about it. Just my opinion.

Forgive me he did say that platforming is a little forgiving. He says that melee combat is rare, he doesn't really say that it's bad, just that the chances you will have to do it don't come up a lot. I don't think platforming is that forgiving...I've mistepped several times and fallen to my death - granted there have been a few times, but other than that.

That's what I'm trying to get at - I just don't understand how such little faults could penalize a game so much - difficulty shouldn't be THAT big of a deal because that's why the game has different DIFFICULTY SETTINGS.

I'll admit, I'm not the greatest and I'm having a rough time on Hard, and it gets a bit frustrating, but it is my choice to play on Hard, not the game's fault.

He was comparing the platforming to Tomb Raider which is a lot harder. I like jumping around in Uncharted i think the platforming is fun. He also said that a lot of the gameplay itself was recycled. "Gears of War meets Tomb Raider." And he also talked about the button icons, which started up in Resident Evil 4 and God of War. So I guess thats y he gave it an 8.

They're almost a full point below the average. There's obviously something off with their review... Does Gamespot rate the games on something other than quality now?

It's based on the reviewers opinion of the game. Not everyone shares the same opinions. There's no reason to argue against it. It's still a very good score regardless. No need to complain over something so small.

Gamespot reviewers like to see us suffer so theygivethe most deserving games a lower score than it should've gotten. They apperantly seem inable to play PS3 games, and lack the ability to recognize when something improves the game; instead, they create their own "logic" to turn it into a negative.

Examples:

Ratchet and Clank review:

  • "there are so many different gameplay mechanics that you get the sense that the developer didn't say "no" to any idea that was presented during the design process" ... how is gameplay variety a bad thing?
  • "difficulty is too easy and only the last hour or so is remotely challenging" ... too easy - I guess they didn't know thatyou can unlock a harder difficulty after beating the game
  • "there's some good humor in it, but the story isn't very interesting, and the ending is a letdown" ... never much of a story based game, but always humorous -considering the story to be a large part of the gameis subjective

Uncharted review:

  • "tough and plentiful enemies can make firefights frustrating" ... oh, now it's too hard, even though there are easy, medium, and hard difficulty levels, and since when has intelligent AI been considered a negative- by the way, the firefights are relatively easy and amazing fun for me, and I'm no gaming pro
  • "platforming elements can be too forgiving" ... I guess the reviewer didn't die enough times while jumping from platform to platform - I never knew people enjoyed having to retry the same jump ten times before perfecting it only to move on to another similar jump; I learn something new every day
  • "certain story elements are underdeveloped" ... the story is a typical summer blockbuster movie-type of story which purposely leaves certain story elements open to make room for a sequel - apparently the reviewer has never seen a summer blockbuster movie, hmph

Its a bit harder on hard. I had to switch difficultys to normal on the car chase part because they were tearing me up! I couldnt get 30 seconds into the chase with out dying and going back to begging. Other than that it is a bit challenging on hard, i wonder how crushing is going to be...

I found this game to be easy, and you just have to be patient when you tackle Hard or Crushing difficulty.

It got that ''low'' score (even though an 8 is a good score) because the game was just a pretty version of others games and scenarios we've already done a few million times. Thats all, period.

Then why would would Gamespot let a review written by someone that only plays X360 games and has never, from what I can tell, reviewed any other PS3 game, and doesn't mention enough negative to give an 8.0 regardless, represent the entire site?

This summed up my thoughts almost exactly. I guess it's because he has NEVER REVIEWED ANY PS3 GAME BEFORE, and doesn't own any of them or probably even a PS3.

If you're going to use that logic for a game such as Uncharted, then you have to use the same logic for a game such as Halo, which got rave reviews and pretty much mid-to-high 9's across the board.

btw....what other sites can you guys recommend for getting good in-depth game reviews?! This is what actually brought me to THIS site a couple of years ago......got tired of buying "cool looking" games, only to buy them and then find out that they absolutely sucked. I've never been disappointed with a game that this site gave an 8 or better on. However, I would like to find a few other reviewers....just to get a consensus.

Ever since the PS3 came out gaming has just turned weird...i mean, i beat uncharted, and the game deserves no bad credit ANYWHERE. From what other game do u get that kind of experience? certainly not tomb raider because its not even being remotely talked about. I think its respect, it is not fair on any level to criticize that game for small flaws. Its just plain disrespectful to the developers and the people as well to bring down sumthing so great for which seems the most obvious "personal" or whatever reasons. Without these games this site wouldnt be crap so give respect where its desreved.

IGN or GameTrailers. They're both pretty damn good imo.

An 8 can be fine, but when you start to give every other game a 9, an 8 becomes a problem.

Halo 3-9.5

That is when it becomes a problem.

They are throwing 9's around like nothing.
