demon's souls
there really isn't much like it, and even if you have played games like monster hunter and king's field, there's still a lot to adapt to/get used to.
I'm not sure of any other console RPG that has an online player vs player system with 1v1s, 1v2s, 1v3s, 2v3s, and the ability to play as the 3-3 boss. The gameplay is very difficult to get used to at first because you have to stay very defensive and not a lot of games are like that.
The World Tendency/Character tendency concept is pretty fresh but can be a pain sometimes. RPG online Co-Op, the ability to leave other players hints and notes on the ground, and touching their bloodstains for a quick laugh to see how they died. It's really unlike any other game this generation.
no one said Valkyria Chronicles?funsohng
Zidaneski said it. And now I'll say it, too.
Valkyria Chronicles is unique because it blends a lot of genres and brings a refreshing experience to the strategy genre as well. Everything about it is fun and it makes for one heck of a game.
I have to give it to Little Big Planet for starting the Play, Create, Share genre. But the unique title that really stands out for me is Valkyria Chronicles. I don't know what it would be called, but it's in a genre of its own as well. I believe Scianix Black coined it: VCRPG..... My new favorite genre. ;)Nephilim83
Is it really that great and ground-breaking? I just checked the price at my local gamestop and didn't feel like paying $54.99 for it.

Its the best RPG on the PS3 as of right now, and definitely worth the $60 I payed. But it should be like $30 to get now at Wal-Mart or something. Maybe Gamestop noticed that they are become rarer and jacked the price back up.

Yeah, Gamestop are just being crooks as usual. But the game really is worth the $55 dollars they're charging. It really is that ground-breaking IMO. I've never played anything else quite like it. Hopefully, that wont always be the case.[QUOTE="Zidaneski"][QUOTE="lpeter31"]

Just imagine its similar except there are no grids and you can take control of each unit in a third-person view and actually worry about being shot at when you move closer to enemies.

I am imagining it, and it still sounds like FF tactics.

Okay then minus special attacks and always worrying about the chance of contact and throw in the ability to save at anytime during battle.

That's a little more convincing. I'll just have to try it myself and then pass judgement. I try to never judge things until I experience them.

There's a demo on the PSN that will give you a very basic idea of how the combat system works, but be warned; the demoe is crap and does the actual game no justice whatsoever! Its nothing like FF tactics (which I too disliked a lot). Your squad units have very basic weapon attacks based on their soldier class. YOu get an objective (usually overtaking a base camp) and you march ahead to achieve it. You control each unit in an over the shoulder third person view, run wherever you want (at the expense of AP), and even aim your weapons to shoot your guns or rockets or grenades or tanks wherever you like. To me its more of a TPS/Strategy game with RPG kinda story and manga style characters. Its awesome game, dude. Do check it out if you get the chance. If you get it at GS get it used. That way you can bring it back within seven days for a full refund no questions asked if you don't like it (its cheaper than renting). ;)MGS4
EVERY NEW GOOD GAME COMING OUT OR CAME OUT AFTER IT COPIED IT IN SOME WAY (NOT INCLUDING SPORTS GAMES AND STUFF)
So Metal Gear,Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3 are obsolete? What about Splinter Cell, it came out before MGS4.[QUOTE="mep69"]LBP Play Create And ShareIndiggagameplay sucks. run and jump lmao/ mines collecting its so boring after I thought it was pretty boring myself after a while, but you have to admit its the most original thing we've seen in a LONG time.

Totally didn't think to check PSN for a demo cause I'm an idiot. Sounds interesting....I'll dl the demo and head on over to Gamestop if I dig the demo at all.
Flower imo is definitely the most unique/original ps3 game. The concept and gameplay were like a complete breath of fresh air to me, after playing countless titles that update and refine old tricks (though I do love this too..).....Has there ever been another game where you play as the wind, and no human/animal life is to be seen in the city??
LBP is a close runner-up, with the somewhat physics-based platforming, and the create and share. However, The actual gameplay borrowed heavily from games I played as a kid and felt extremely familiar, even at its most unique/original moments.
Bioshock would be on the list, if it werent a XBOX game 1st.....
I have not yet played Valkyria chronicles, so cannot comment on its originality, but I cant wait to!! Tried to get it today, but Gamestop was sold out!!
