That's a thing I don't understand. Why do people come in with those kind of expectations, like it's gonna be a great game forever? It's a freaking game, everyone gets bored of it at some point, its like people have an epiphany for some games and think they'll never get boring... Even the new ones that we think are 'fresh'. Video games are like everything else in the entertainment industry, temporary distraction and different strokes for different folks. That's all. Hell, even games like Bayonetta is gonna get super repetitive after a while.supa_badman
Exactly. That's why when it comes to Call of Duty, I'd rather not go down that road because I've been there before and in buying MW2, I'll just be travelling down that same road after the town around it has been renovated. But because all my friends on PSN are getting it, so am I, for the sake of having something to play with other people.
lol, obviously i didn't mean that in a literal sense.
I just don't think you need to concentrate on the inevitable drop in interest (which plagues most games no matter how great they are) and enjoy it in the moment. And if your forecast of 6-7 month holds any water, it's going to be one big@$$ moment :P
hey, i lived through the cod4 addiction too... and i ran that well so dry, the villagers were forced to migrate to a neighboring town. So obviously, concerns similar to yours crept into my mind.
But when i recalled the good times i had while playing cod4, i always concluded that "just give me some fresh maps, weapons and perks, and I'm ready to dive back in."
Now to acknowledge the flip side, like in most competitive MP-oriented games, a lot of your enjoyment is based on the participating community. So naturally we're going to see all kinds of spammers and routine players that we grew tired of in CoD4 (you know, the ones that come up with a few "strategies" and sweet spots for every map, that after a while you'll be able to exploit with your eyes closed) Needless to say, that kills the thrill a bit as you'll be able to guess where everyone is and where they're coming from with considerable accuracy.
With that said, MW2 will still be fresh in the early going; and before those detrimental tendencies really solidify themselves, all of the perks, weapons and modes will keep you coming for more. Not to mention the fact that most of the annoying perks were removed (and these new death streaks pale in comparison to the cheapness level of the jugg, mart, and 3X frags perks :) ); Furthermore, klass customization is now deeper and the point accumulation system for ranking up has been completely revamped (where you'll also be awarded points for actions other that killing and/or assisting)... Now that doesn't sound bad at all...
Rakuho
Yeah, it will get boring; that's inevitable, I just feel pessimistic and indifferent when it comes to MW2.
I know Bayonetta's going to be the same way. I'm going to play the **** out of that game, and sooner (but most likely later) I'll start to want more - something different. For some reason, I can better focus on the "brand new game" effect with Bayonetta, but I can't do it with Modern Warfare 2.
I guess it's because CoD to me was more of an addiction than something I like.
For example, people smoke cigarettes. People also love puppies. Puppy lovers who smoke will buy a puppy, take pictures with it, and hang them up around the house, but not cigarettes. Same with me and CoD4. I've played CoD4 more than any game in my entire life, but I would first decorate my desktop with Mirror's Edge or WipEout pictures before I put up something CoD related.
CoD isn't really fun to me.. it's more of a fix than anything, and I think it's the same for most (not all) people, the only difference is some of them can't distinguish between fun and fix.
...I swear to God, Activision puts nicotine in their games.
