I bought a 60 GB PS3 in December 2006 and i have obviously had it for a while. anyway, a couple days ago my ps3 started to freeze anywhere from instantly after i turn it on to about 5 minutes after i turn it on. sometimes the ps3 wont even show anything on the screen. i believe that the problem seems to be coming from the HDD although i am not 100% certain. pretty much all i am asking is for advice on what i should do because my ps3 has been practically been rendered useless and i do not have a warranty.

I don't think ANYONE here will come with the solution to your problem. MAYBE Sony can tell you what to do. If they don't, you won't have any option other than paying or continue with it.

The best idea is to call sony.

But just outta curiosity. Do you have the ps3 in a closed space?

It might of overheated.Trust me it has happened to me. After just a year with my ps3.

I hate sony now for all this flip sake i brought my ps3 around august 2007 brand new from the stores around december it froze i left it for 5 months June 2008 it still didnt work the funny freeze colour kept comming up. 2009 i brought a Cooling Fan that didnt make no difference at all now i am going to complain to sony about 60GB but before i do that i'm gonna try getting a new hard drive that might solve the problem.

You have a launch model so you're out of warranty, hope you have $150 for the fix.

yea happened to me with the blu ray drive. I tried to get it repaired but the problem seems to be more then just the laser, the chip in the blu ray drives apparently grows defective too, the chip that sends the data from the BR discs. thats what i was told was the problem and the only people that can replace it currently is sony because the chips have special ID's exclusive to each system. the guy told me hes been getting over 300 playstation 3's per month to repair since winter. :o i knew it was common error i hate sony customer service. good luck wit ur system tho
