Came home from work to find that my 60 gig model PS3 won't turn on. My brother in law

was playing Fallout 3, and I guess from what he said the game auto-saved, and then the power on the Playstation blipped, and now it wont turn on. Can anyone help me figure out what I need to do?

PS3s are really reliable. id kick your brother in law, then punch him in the teeth, then interogate him.

This normally happens to people who don't turn their PS3s off properly. I.e pressing the PS button and opting for "Turn of System". Or if indeed the game DID freeze, then you can get around that by holding down the reset button for 3 seconds and the PS3 will switch itself off.

If your brother in law didn't do any of these things then your harddrive could be corrupt. Which means you've lost all your saved games and stuff. So you can phone Sony up and hope for a replacement or format your PS3 hardrive using your PC. BUT, the best thing to do is phone Sony.

Trust me, I got pretty mad at him, but I have a feeling he didn't do anything wrong. He's an electronics junkie, and respects my things. Called Sony, and they said to unplug it, cool it off with a fan, and if it doesn't work, then I'm gonna have to send it in for repairs ($149...8-12 buisness days....and I had Killzone 2's pre-order all paid off...... kinda wanna jump off a bridge atm, lol)

I'll respond when I find out if unplugging/cooling it will help. If not, then no Killzone 2 for me....had my whole weekend free just to play it....

That sounds quite odd, especially for a PS3.. I guess these things happen though? Sounds like you'll need to call sony :P

Does it not even make a noise? Try using a different outlet. Did you try removing the HDD and starting? Try these maybe they will work good luck.

No use...I'll try removing the HDD, and see if that works. Looks like I'm shafted $149. I swear I have the worst luck.

I'll be more specific with what happens when I turn it on.

WHen I try to activate the power via controller or touch sensor switch, the system will power up, and I can hear the fans going. However, the green light turns to yellows, beeps a couple times, then goes to a blinking red. That's all I can say, really. Tryed cooling it next to a cold fan for an hour with all plugs taken out, and it still won't seem to work.

Then you'll need some glass shards, surgical razors, and quite a few needles.

Same thing happned to mine. I took the power supply out and tested it with a votage meter and I wasn't getting any reading from the part that sends power to the main board. The warranty has expired so I just bought a power supply and I'm going to try changing it. Hopefully that's the problem.

i had the exact same problem. however, mine could turn on a couple of times to take out the disc. i sent it to sony and they told me it is probably a problem with some components. probably due to faulty components which are evident in all electronics. so i guess we are the small percentage affected. but anyway, despite my warranty being over, sony said they'll do it as a last service for me without fees. they might even send me a new ps3! but well, i'm living in Singapore, it might differ between countries.

Is your PS3 well ventilated? Do you live in a tropcial climate perchance? If the asnwer to either one is 'yes', then you may have overheated. When you try to turn it on, what does the light do? Do you see a yellow light flicker briefly? Good news is, the turnaround time is really good. You'll get it back in about a week. Sorry man... it happened to me too. (and I think it's funny that many people can't beleieve the PS3 can break during normal use.)

You have the Yellow Light of Death. Either repair it yourself via online guide on youtube, Send it in to sony to fix for $150, Or buy a Slim.
