PSV looking really good, but it also got me thinking. Right now the graphics very similar to HD consoles, but doesn't that mean it will cost more to develop for it than old handhelds? And if it dose will the games become more expensive?

http://www.siliconera.com/2011/08/16/playstation-vita-devkits-cost-far-less-than-psp-and-playstation-3-kits/

excerpt from Siliconera article:

Playstation Vita development kits, required by developers to create games for the device, will be significantly cheaper than devkits for Sony's other game devices. [...]

Prototype Vita Devkits may be free, Bain added, stating that PubFund, a Sony Computer Entertainment America initiative, offers studios budget for the development of exclusive games. PubFund is currently seeing up to 15 pitches a week.

*gasp* could that mean that we could develop games ourselves if we knew some programming lingo? Hehe, that's just wishful thinking ;)

My concern is battery life. I don't see the games going much higher than $40, I could even stomach $50.

I don't mind having handheld games being more expensive if it means more good handheld games. I'd rather pay fifty bucks and have top-notch original content than pay thirty and wind up w/ dumbed down versions of consol games.

I'm also afraid that the battery life will be like the 3DS

and that is why you get a Nyko battery for your 3DS...it fixed its biggest flaw for me...now its just waiting until the big names come out, if this is the case with the Vita as well, maybe we can get a battery for that also

The games should be $39.99 for brand new titles. Top of the line must have PSvita new releases. Development costs should be the same as PSP games. Then there will be the standard $29.99 and later $19.99 price brackets for PSV games.

The price of the games should be about the same.

My concern is the whole touchscreen interface. Why I can't I just use the Dpad and buttons? I find it odd one must hold the Vita in the left hand which seems awkardly to me. I also navigating via touchscreen slow. I get a kick how so called veterns of touchscreen can't get that certain option they want.

I think the meaning was "wait to buy the 3DS until the big name games came out"

I would have hoped that development costs could be offset by recycling assets from 360/PS3 games. Didn't they get a fairly decent version of Yakuza 4 up and running in about a month or so (or less?). At that rate it would be conceivable that Kurohyou 3 could easily be made using assets that the developers have already invested in. It won't be free what with the cost of the work of getting those assets onto the PSV, but it sure would be a damn sight cheaper than starting from scratch.

You know developers want do that. Ported PS3 games to PSV shouldn't cost $39-$49.99 a game.
