No backwards compatibility.

Is there a reason why they didn't include it in this one?

To keep the cost down would be the obvious reason, but this "problem" existed prior to the release of the Slim, so I see no reason to address it as a dealbreaker for the slim.

The hardware in the PS3's that had BC support is different from what's on the market now and the hardware was removed to help bring cost down. I was one of the many lucky people that bought one of the best PS3's that's been sold so far, the 60 gig with all the needed hardware from day one.

You do know that not all the B/C PS3's were hardware based right?

If they have software-based BC capability, they're going to release it for the PS3 sooner or later. The only question is how long the PS2 itself sells well enough for them to hold off on the announcement. It's probably going to be a Firmware 4.0+ thing.

The reason why they didn't put the BC in later PS3 models is because the PS3 had enough games on the library to keep a gamer occupied. Back when the PS3 launched(the first ones that were at $600), it didn't have a lot of launch titles so that's why there's the BC to make up for the library. Now that the PS3 has enough games on its own, there's not much need for BC. I think they'll include BC in future PS3 models, or updates like masterpinky, said ONCE the PS2 isn't being made anymore. There are still some PS2's out there as well as some games being made for it. Once it reaches its final days, you'll see some in a PS3. I don't really care much about BC at all since the main reason why I bought a PS3 is for to play PS3 games. Just as how I want a 360 to play 360 games.

The thing is the PS3's that used software still had the much needed graphics syntisizer to support PS2 games. The systems being sold now had this removed as well. There hasn't been any real effort at developing the emulator for the graphics syntisizer so far.

They did it to save money. One can easily just buy a PS2 to play PS2 games on... I mean that.. Or you should've bought at launch.

I have a 60GB with BC and honestly, I've played maybe 3 games from ps2 and one from ps1. With the new ps3 games comming out, I probably won't buy/play any ps2 games again. Based on how often the PSN store gets updated with ps2 games, BC won't be a big of a deal in a year or so. I'm even debating to sell my 60 on ebay and buy something with more GB.

I'd give up my 60GB PS3 for the slim, I haven't used the BC once. First I'd like to see that the slims don't have any defects though.

PS2 games look like garbage on a lcd tv the asailing is horrible.I don't see how anyone would want to play ps2 games on a lcd. Now with the god of war bundle remasterd I'm picking it up on day one. I had a ps2 hooked up to my tv the games looked so bad I sold my ps2 3 days after I purchased it.
