My friend here is tired of playing his original xbox. Hes wanting a new console and ive pretty much convinced him to grab a ps3 rather than a 360. Only thing that is holding him back is the price tag. Should he buy the system now or wait till holidays for a price drop/gift? What do you guys think?

if he is happy to wait then in or around October thier could be a price drop ( Sir Howard Stringer said SONY will answer the question of a price drop + how much before the holiday season so id guess a nice price drop just before GTA IV )
ps3 doesn't cost a whole lot more than the xbox, especially once you buy all the accessories and crap you need for the 360 plus paying for online if u get it, in a few months there will be some huge titles out too, right now its more like an investment but will truly be worth it in the future, especially in a few years when the format war is settled and games and tools progress, eventually more devolopers will want more space and want to use the new discs for better quality but developers will always be making dvd quality games for the 360 and will always have to factor in that not every xbox has a hard drive, go with ps3 for sure and eventually its online will be better than 360's, they have a lot of good ideas comming,plus its free!
i have a 360 and its starting to bore me sorry to say. im thinking about getting a ps3 later during the winter holidays, trade in my 360 to help pay for it. im also think to myself that i need a hdtv first before i jump to the ps3, it will make the whole experience a lot better. overall i think you should get the ps3 because your gonna be getting a whole lot more in the end.
