I just wanted to say what I think would be good ideas for Sony if they ever tried to make the next portable system.

Same basic design... maybe reworked to be more comfortable

A second analog nub just because of it's usefulness

Pressure sensitive buttons, again because of usefulness

Same basic screen... maybe using a led backlight to save power, and also maybe increasing the refresh rate to reduce screen ghosting

Better graphics, I don't really care to much how far they would go with it just as long as it stays relitively cheap

A very large amount of internal memory, even as much as 10gb with a slot for additional memory. My reasoning for this is that we won't go out and buy games. We would download as many as we want. We would delete old games and download new ones we've bought. You can buy as many as you want and it will be saved on your "account" ready to download.

Download stations at stores. Where you would bring your psp, and download any game avialable on a computer or server there. This would benefit very much from the fastest transfer rates avaliable.

Lastly, for every game with multiplayer you would have game sharing so that any lack of Wi-fi multiplayer like the first PSP is suffering from will be remedied with single-game multiplayer.

Internally the system would be similiar to the PSP, so developers won't have to learn a new system of development.

There is no innovation in this system, but I think that adding a touch-screen or built in camera would depend on developing fun games just as much as a plain system would.

Obviously the system itself would be expensive, but it would have much cheaper games.

Thoughts?

the PSP now currently has many of the things you stated already....honestly we don't need "psp 2" ... thinking something like that is just being greedy and not enjoying what you have now.

Having download stations at stores does sound pretty innovative, and I'm all for seeing Sony implement a touch screen with better graphics for the PsP too. Something else I wish the PsP had was a flip top display, and some button illumination certainly wouldn't hurt its design either. A second analog pad is a DEFINITE must! NOBODY in their right mind can deny that one!!

The PSP is great the way it is but for PSP 2 it would have in my opinion at least 100mb of ram a 1 Ghz processor and well a new video card by Nvidia (Nvidia makes graphics cards for sony) hopefully one made specifically for the PSP 2 but they could get ideas from like laptops or something too.. and of course a second analog.. a built in HD would make it very expensive and well by the time PSP 2 is announced we will have atleast 4 gig mem sticks at like only $50 a stick what we need is support for more than one type of mem stick we need like a 10 in one mem slot reader like in some PCs... these are only the essentials, a touch screen would ruin the screen and well touch screen is not that great in my opinion, I have a DS lite and well prefer to use the buttons in games,....

If they put in a touch screen or a flip top design many people, will just think that they are copying off the ds and it would show their lack of ideas.

Nah everything now a days is getting a touch screen.. laptops, PCs, refrigerators, i Phone, cars, keyboards, homes, etc. Its not like all of those things are copying the DS. If someone complains and says that the new PSP2 is copying the DS just because it has a touch screen (only if the PSP 2 does get a touch screen) well then who cares really, that person is just being a fanboy...

thats true but I'll bet Sony will follow the same pattern it has for years

1. release system

2. release slimmer cooler version of said system

3.rinse, repeat just with a new system

I have a feeling that once game developers figure out how to program games for Cell, you'll see a Cell Processor in the next PSP.

I expect a modified Cell Processor, a 720p resolution screen, 2 analog sticks, 802.11G Wi-Fi, and at least 256 MB of RAM that can be used to cache data. I also envision it having at least 1 GB of internal memory. Full flash support for web browsing, ala iPhone. Perhaps they'd find a way to do some sort of UMD Blu-Ray drive to get the space up to around 10-15 Gigs. It wouldn't surprise me to see a camera. Let's say 2.1 Megapixels? It would also be able to emulate PS2 games perfectly. Obviously, those games would be downloadable off of the Playstation Network. It would be fully integrated into the Playstation Network and Home. Sony will continue to use their Memory Sticks for users to add additional space. What the heck, I can envision that a GPS would be built into the system. A monthly subscription would enable GPS access.

Oh...and Sony would charge about $400 for it.

Oh nice, and a UMD blu-ray drive would mean it would be backwards compatible with all your psp1 games and umd movies. That would be a good choice.

Nice! I would say $450-$500 though and a phone (just to be the ultimate handheld device...lol).
