It started yesterday when it suddenly reset itself randomly after I booted it up. I got the composite cables out and set it back to use my HDMI cable and then I played for a good few hours with no problems. The same thing happened today but I cannot set it back to use my HDMI cable. I plugged the composite cables in, I held the power button down for numerous seconds, I tried the second HDMI port on my HDTV, but nothing. The screen stays blank and then reverts back to composite. It at least detected an HDMI cable to begin with but I don't even get that anymore. I googled around a bit and my problem seems to differ from others in that I have been playing with HDMI enabled for numerous weeks and it has now ceased to work.

Fellow PlayStation 3 owners, please assist me. :(

I had this happen to me.

Turns out my first hdmi cable I had was twisting a little near the plug part of it....I think the wires got all messed up inside the cable because I went out and bought a new one for like 10$ and everything started working fine.

I would suggest trying a new HDMI cable on it if you have one laying around the house. If not, go out and buy one. Just remember to keep the bill so that you can return it if the new one still doesn't work.

Like I said, I have tried that before. "No Signal" is what my HDTV tells me.

I have a friend coming over Monday and he will bring his HDMI cable. I suppose I should be working anyway. Still, I never moved the darn thing so why would it spontaneously screw up?

I don't know why it would spontaneously screw up lol. Mine was from moving my console from the basement TV to the one in my room a bunch of times.

Hopefully your buddies HDMI cable will work. If it does it will be an easy fix for you. Best of luck.

I just connected my laptop to my HDTV with the HDMI cable. It never looked as good with an HDMI cable as it did with a VGA cable but it never looked this bad.

Actually it's not the cable or the PS3, it's your HDMI port on your TV. I got one port on my HDTV that displays the EXACT same pixelated image like above. If you got another port try pulgging it into that one..should fix your problem I think.

I can only think it's the TV..I don't know. Wiggle the HDMI around while it;s plugged in the see if it changes or something. Or maybe I'm completely wrong! Very weird problem you're having.

i have had this problem a few times, at first i thought my ps3 graphics went belly up and thought that my ps3 was dead, i tried everything suggested on here, but the only thing that worked for me and still works when it does play up, is to remove cable with ps3 still on and then turn tv off. turn tv on and reconnect ps3 to tv. if no luck then turn off ps3 and hold down power button until you hear the bleeps. I did have same problem with my freeview box (bt vision in uk) and did exact same thing and it worked, keep trying mate as it will eventually work. Hopefully you mates cable proves it still works

This happened to my 60GB Phat PS3, and I did this "hold the power button trick" more times than I should and it pretty much broke my PS3. It wasn't the HDMI cable, socket, or anything external. Sony rep told me, it was pretty common.. and it happened to his son's PS3.. Something to do with the video signal not outputing properly because something inside is malfunctioning. R.I.P. 60GB model, haha.

So my friend came by today with his HDMI cable and we hooked my PlayStation 3 up to my TV again. Worked splendidly. My own HDMI cable must have miraculously gone kaput without being moved or fiddled with. I ordered a new one for £1.63 and hope this one doesn't screw up for no reason.
