OK from the top. I went to turn on my system this morning and it turned on fine. However when it was about to loaded up the cross menu it gave me a message that said my hard drive had been corrupted. I called sony customer service and they said that i would have to get a new system. Anyone ever get this message or know how to fix it. If not can i just replace the hard drive instead of the whole system. Any help is appriciated. Oh yes my friend did turn off the system wrong yesterday. I dont if that caused the problem. Thanks.

Most likely, I don't see why the PS3 doesn't give you the option to attempt to reformat it though. Getting a new hard drive is an option. And if you have the 60/80 gig models you could have someone take your hard drive. Put it into their computer (as a secondary) and possibly move your saved game data onto a flash drive.

Btw, your ps3.. didn't break. I think your topic is some what over reacting. You could only blame yourself for letting your friend 'turn it off wrong'. It states all over the place if you turn the system off at different times it will corrupt the hard drive.

i would replace the hard drive first. If that doesn't work then call customer service.
