Ive had my PS3 in the same spot since I got it a month after release. Almost a year ago.
Its in a spot I thought it would probably get rdusty and maybe overheat, but it hasnt yet. I never clean it either :P .
I have it turned on all the time basically unless Im really not playing it.
hard luck TC. at least ure part of a very small elite group of ppl who have had PS3s died on em :P. my wii also started to behave badly (looked like it was about to die), what are the chances?
chances are this wasnt ure fault...but u know the general rule with electronics....make sure all vents are free from blockage and have at least a couple of inches of freespace around them so that air can pass through freely. and of course when its not working, a good whack with a hammer usually does the trick (did that with my nes...made the cart pop up...thing never broke though....ah good times :P).
legal stuff: Note that the hitting of electronics with a hammer is not endorsed by osan0 or any of its partners and the action of hitting said items is taken completly at the oweners risk. Osan0 recommends that ppl do not hit electronics with hammers, but instead return the items to the place or purchase and/or the manufacturer so that said manufacturer may hit said item with a hammer instead. hmm... I thought this topic was kinda suspicious for some reason and I saw that you posted this before on the 15th of october with a slightly different story. What is up with that?
So the other day, I was playing my PS3. Then I shut it off to eat, when I saw it turn back itself on, then die. It just died. I can't turn it on at all. I've tried plugging out and back in the AC, etc. So I call up SONY, and they tell me that this happens frequently, that it's probably overheated, and that they'll replace it. Since I still have receipt, etc., not a big deal.
But has anyone else had this problem, or know why it happens? I've only had it for two months. Can it be that fragile? Totally lame.
Since a lot of you seem to know what you're talking about, I would appreciate whatever feedback.

heh, I didn't really mean to out him or anything. Just wondering what was his intent. I just saw this post and went "didn't i see this before" and i looked up his posts. Then saw that it was the same story yet slightly altered. So...TC What is up with that?

I was going to say! Cuz my ps3 gets hellishly hot, and doesn't 'overheat', his must have burned a hole in the ground(or wherever it was) to 'overheat'

Wow, no life huh?
what happens in a few months when there is no such tihng as the 60GB and your 60GB breaks and you sned it in? do they repair it? or replace it? if they had to replace it how would that work if theres no more 60GB?BTBAM127obviously if they had to replace it they would replace it with an 80 gig.
So the other day I was playing with my PS3 when I got a phone call. So I turned it off to answer the phone, came back after about twenty to thirty minutes, and noticed that it had powered back on. Then it powered off. When I tried to power it back on, it wouldn't. It just died.
My PS3 died!
When I called Sony, they told me that this happens all the time, and that it probably overheated. I kept the receipt and all, so I just returned it in the box they sent me, but God, after just two months. Has this happened to anyone else?

Well carry on making topics like this and ur gamespot account is gonna die too!

yea i got that feeling to, i knew i had read this b4 but i thought maybe someone just bumped it. get over it TC, if you PS3 died, you will get a new one. but we all know PS3's don't die ALL the time.

I was thinking that too.
Those two stories are too similiar.
Except this time no more "sony rep told me it happened very oftn"
Good job trolling man. I know you you want your 15 disks MGS4 or 30 disks FFXIII on your box and hoping PS3 got rod as often as the box, but plz get back to reality will ya?
(Omg, notices the guy that stole LuBu's PSN lol)
I leave my PS on standby all the time. (all the times that it is plugged in, besides when I'm playing) I couldn't see an over-heating problem killing the console. My guess is, you shut it down while it was doing something hard-drive related & you corrupted it.
(You did say you shut it off when the phone rang) A lot of PS3's over-heated when they were first shown at TGS 2006. However, all they had to do was reboot theirs. *But* They over-heated from ventilation, not from dust/cigurette smoke. :o!
I did post before, but didn't keep up with the comments, so am posting again. Then I tracked the last series of comments and saw how nasty people got about it. Geez, I just wanted to report and get some feed back. But it did die, I had my receipt, so no big deal. It's just that it happened after just two months, and not with too much use either.
Here's a question: I usually keep it on standby--is that the mistake?monadmike
sorry, my intent was never to call you a liar or anything. I was just wondering cause you posted two topics with slightly different stories. So i wanted to know what your reasoning was behind that. No offense intended.

oohh burned.
No problem. But at 35 I'm probably older than most. I just happen to be into video games, and wanted to report this recent incident. But basic story: my PS3 died while I had it on standby (which is what I meant by "turned it off"), called Sony, the rep told me it happens a lot, then I sent it to them for repair or replacement.
I don't even get a lot of the jargon. Whats a TC, for example? What are "posts" about.

and sony tell you it happen every time huh? thats more strange" everytime" are you sure you call sony and not MS?
