just take it to someone who knows how to open up the PS3 and get the lense fixed, plus i think you have to buy a lense from ebay or something, also you must know what type of lense your PS3 has, there is either a singe or a double ones, welll all the above if you PS3 cant read anything and the lense has died.:D

to be more clear to anyone that is trying to help, its not the lens thats broken but rather the system itself, it has the Yellow Light of Death or whatever its called on this board nowadays so it powers on for a few seconds but then shuts off before im even able to eject the dvd

You could try to fix it yourself, but its up to you. Its just a matter of reapplying the thermal paste to the CPU chip. I can't promise that it wont happen again though. Once it gets YLOD it's pretty much done...

That's harsh. I don't know what I'd do if I lost my 60GB!

Guess you'll just have to settle for a non-backwards-compatible PS3.

Sounds like you may have gotten a lot of use out of it.

It can be pretty expensive to repair those things especially if it's a defective lens.

Probably good time to buy slim.. hmm, is there a way you can transfer the data from the old machine to a new one if you bought one?
