i have this problem and posted about it a while ago, my ps3 is in its 14th month now so no warranty and i dont like the idea of payin 190.97 for repairs on faulty hardware... anyways ive come to learn that the blu ray laser itself is a very expensive piece of hardware so any repairs going to be costly, you could try opening the ps3 if your out of warranty and replacing the laser yourself or try cleaning it if its dusty.

Mine wasn't dusty when i opened it but figured may as well try cleaning it anyways, put it back together still isn't reading any discs so I'm getting it repaired locally at $110 which is reasonable considering the laser runs around $90-$110 anyways. Look up your local Kijiji site for console repair stores, or do it yourself. Here's a tutorial http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=70948

i saw a post on the official playstation forums where a guy replaced his blu-ray laser and it was successful. but be warned if this is very risky not only could you do more damage but if you open it yourself then sony won't touch it even for the 150+ dollar repair fee. cleaning it has been reported not to work. like the gentleman before me said i'd try alocal repair or let sony handle it. sorry to hear about your problem.

no, just a week ago i was playing killzone just fine, no problems, did not updates, haven't turned it on for a few days then i go to play street fighter today and it doesn't read the disc, then go thru and try all my games, restarting it, playing with settings and everything.....yea this sucks, i called sony and they said it was $170 to fix which is ridiculous to pay for a faulty blue ray drive, especially since i have logged very little play time on my ps3, probably just under 100 hours, and yea got no warranty either, bought at the end of 2007
