My ps3 started squeaking an hour ago and I don't know how to make it stop. I think its coming from the hard drive because it only squeaks when I'm playing a game. I dont know whether or not I should call sony, cause my warranty is up. Do you think its a serious problem?

I have an 80gb fat ps3.

Get a mousetrap quick!:D

No seriously, I would think it's mostly likely the fan bearing, fans will get worn over time...I'd be surrpised if it was the drive.

I hope your right. Sooo should I try and replace the fan or buy one of those intercooler things or should I stop being Paranoid and go back to enjoying Fallout 3 and MW2.

ever since i dropped my fatty on my driveway it's been making a thumping noise but it still works the same and stays cool so as long as you don't notice any change in the system's performance i wouldn't be TOO worried BUT maybe it's ur disc drive??

Well if you're feeling confident about opening up the PS3 by all means do it, you might be able to get away with lubricating the fan if it is that, alternatively just change it as suggested.

If it's the fan it will need replacing eventually as it won't be able to spin quick enough to cool the system down.

Here's a link on how to disasemble a PS3 if you fancy having a go: http://www.llamma.com/PS3/repair/PS3_disassembly_tutorial.htm

You could ring Sony and ask, to see what they suggest but if it's out of warranty they aren't going to fix it without you having to pay out.

I'm gonna let it rest over night and see what happens in the morning.
