My PS3 SLIM is DEAD :(

I bought it in march and today i tried to turn it on and nothing, then i noticed not even the red standby light was on and thought ok now something is very wrong. I already tested the power cord and it works so IT IS the PS3 :( good thing i bought a 1 year warranty at Gamestop but now i have to check and see if they have some. Still i didn't think it would fail only after 2 months.

Is the switch at the back of the PS3 on?

That sucks. Stupid question but did you try turning on your Slim with both the controller ànd the powerbutton on the Slim itself?

the ps3 slim doesnt have a switch like the fat systems have, i have a slim so i should know

you dont need another ps3 to test the power cord. the ps3 powercord is a pc powercord just hook the cord to youre pc test it that way.

What about the outlet? I have a few dead outlets in my house.

My friend bought a 120GB Slim about 4 months ago and had the same thing happen after owning it for a week. No power, no lights, etc. After going through a bunch of stuff with Sony, they figured that the power supply inside went out. Sony wanted him to send it back, but he just returned it to Best Buy and got another one. In your case I'd say either call Sony up, or just return it to Gamestop.

Of course make sure you try plugging it into a different outlet first. Outlets do go bad. If you've tried that, and have swapped out the power cord there really is not much else it can be on the Slims but the system itself.

There is no "legal requirement" to have a 1 year warranty. Out of practice most major electronics have at least 90 days, and some more complex/expensive electronics have 1 year or more. But it's not a "legal requirement".

It is usually a waste to buy an extended warranty though, and in this case it would have been already taken care of under Sony's warranty anyway. Hopefully since it's with gamestop he at least gets a whole new PS3, rather than a refurb or repair job.

Sorry to hear that your PS3 slim died. Makes me wish that I held on to my PS3 Phat. But I didn't. I guess even the slims can die on you without warning. Sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a console is harder then when my Cat died.....So I know what you are curently experiencing.

While there is no legal requirment to grant one, there is a legal requirement to abide by one when given. I challenge you to find me one sony product that does not state a one year warranty is given. Consumer protection laws are in place that force companies to supply these in many countries in the world.

TC- If your not a troll then apologies, gutted it happened to you. Ive had three 60g models replaced by sony, and each time i called them and they delivered a new one to my door, this was when they came out though.

just fixed the 60gb phat yesterday. it took almost 2 hours with heat gun, thermal paste and screwdrivers.

This guy is probably PS3 hater trying to spread rumors about the console. $100 bucks says this guy is lying.

Well, i was really lucky today at 10am i called the Gamestop from where i bought my PS3 from and the guy was really cool, he told me he had only one PS3 Slim left and he would hold it for me until i arrived, :) everything went very smooth now i have a PS3 for Red Dead Redemption on Tuesday :D thanks everyone for your suggestions.
