It literaly sounds like a leaf blower. and theres also little to no dust in it. Whats wrong with it? it freezes all the time and just ruined my uncharted 2. When i turn it on there is a low buzzing, then a medium buzzing. then i start the game and theres a high buzzing, then a leaf blowing buzzing for the whole time im playing. I thought ps3 was supposed to be quiet >_> . a year ago, it fell of my fireplace mantel which is about 4 ft. and ive only had it dor a couple years. My xbox fell the same way and it works just peachy keen (lol) and ive had that for a few years and its really quiet to. My point is.... would i be able to send it in and have them fix it, or will they not accept it sense it fell... when it did fall, the frame in the corner by the power button is open but it works.

I'd say you're having fan failure...then of course over-heating... sorry :(

Also, if it's under warranty then you may get away with a fix. HOWEVER, since there is noticeable trauma to the case it won't be covered.

I had the same exact issue.

Not sure why but the fans were so dang crazy loud that I could not even watch a movie on it because it got on my nerves.

I sent mine to Sony and they sent me a referb PS3. I have not had that issue again....

Oh by the way I tried to use a vacuum suction to get dust out and all kinds of crap. Nothing worked...send it in.

my 40GB sounded just like that, a leaf blower (or in my case, an airplane engine), after awhile it starting blinking a red light, then it wouldnt turn on anymore, as i guess the system just overheated completely, you might want to get that checked soon before any more damage happens to it, like it did with my system
