My PS3 turns on by itself. Anyone know why?

I never enabled remote play so that's not the problem. I've seen others who have had the same problem receive this bit of advice. I'm not sitting on my controller or otherwise turning my system on mistakenly. It just starts up randomly.

It's annoying because my PS3 sits in a cabinet that I open when I want to play, but leave shut when I'm gone. I'll open my cabinet to play and my PS3 will be on and its fan will be running high and the system will be super hot. Yes, I can leave the cabinet open, but my wife won't like that much. Besides, I'd really like to get to the bottom of why my system starts up without any input from me.

Any advice or tips?

When your PS3 is inside something, it's not a cabinet, it's a coffin.

some TVs can control HDMI attached devices, maybe that is the problem?

Regarding the coffin issue. I know my current setup is far from ideal. But my wife and I are finishing work on our house, and my study (aka my game room) isn't done yet. When it is, my PS3 will be out in the open and won't get so hot. But that's a separate issue. Right now, I'm more worried about it turning on randomly.

Turn it off in the back then.. Btw not while its on.. lol

Maybe one of your controllers have a sticking PS button, or you're leaving it on accidentally, or accidentally hitting the PS button after shutting it off? By the way I don't recommend putting a PS3 in a place that the front and rear aren't open. The reason is that the front is where it draws air in and the rear is where it blows the hot air out. If The front or rear are blocked off then it can't vent properly. It needs to be able to always suck cool air in and expel hot air out that wont get sucked back in th front. You're asking for your PS3 to fail you. Also never unplug it while it's on or use the switch in back. Always use the controller or power button on front. Hold the power button on front even if you have to keep it pressed for 10 seconds sometimes to get it to shut down. It has a shutdown sequence it goes through that prevents it from having problems and it only can do it when you shut it down with the power button or controller.

Your ps3 is most likely faulty. The first slim ps3 I bought turned itself on 3 times by itself within the time I owned it. Turn on was not the result of user error. I owned it for two weeks and returned it. The slim ps3 I have now never has turned on by itself. I suggest you return your ps3 if it bothers you and you are within the return period.

Must be sticky button, not happening on the OLD PS3's because those have touch sensitive buttons and the only was to have then accidentally turn on is to have the controller XMBB be touched.

I'm not sure how to solve the problem but there is a setting for the PS3 where you can set it to shut it self off after an hour of inactivity. At least this will prevent it from over heating when you're not home. Also, do you own the official Blu Ray remote? If you do that could be the problem, since the PS3 turns on if any of the buttons are pressed.
