Ive never had any issues with my PS3, but ive noticed that sometimes (about 40%) of the time the fans come on and theyre pretty loud. I have my ps3 sitting on a plastic/metal little table, in a reasonably well ventalated room, which has an AC

When you leave your PS3 on for a long time, and it starts to heat up, it kicks up the power on your fans in an attempt to bring the tempurature down. Unlike a PC, the Ps3 wasn't designed to handle a higher powered cooling system(although it is available for purchace by third party companies). So when it's kicking up, that means you need to take a break. Just be lucky you don't get 3 red lights saying your house is about to burn down.

I can't speak for him but I don't have much to do now that school is out and all my buds got summer school. I play around 3 hours a day.

Nothing's wrong-normal for fans to kick in and sound louder at times. When you don't hear them after several hours play, then you can kiss your PS3s shiny black butt goodbye cos you'll know it's about to melt.

Obviously if the PS3 is going into high power fan mode then it's not very well ventilated...

there is no problem. the ps3 gets hot, it cools down.

the ps3 is quiet at first, which is what people said initially.

a problem? how bout a ps3 overheating? thats a problem.

mY ps3 literaly sounds like a leaf blower 100% of the time and it actually overheats itself from blowing really hard which freezes my games and just today ruined my uncharted 2.

I've had mine for about four years and recently the fan has been kicking in a lot more at full blast. It never used to do this and when it does now it blows out cold air, its not hot or even warm. I had a theory that a firmwire update may have made the fans kick in quicker as a precaution. Maybe over heating was causing issues that Sony caught up on? Either that or its just dust...
