First, I have never played a prior SOCOM game, so this is my opinion based on me being a first time SOCOM player.

I wanted the headset, so like most, for the extra 10 bucks, I got the bundle with SOCOM.

After the installation and then the patch, I was already waiting like 30 minutes...so I said to myself, ok, now I see what people are talking about.

I create my Soldier/Merc, customize him up (reminds me of Rainbow Six,) and off to the servers I went.

Needless to say, I got destroyed...not knowing the maps or even the controls really well. People on my team are talking like they knew these maps inside and out. Then I heard that these maps are actually recycled maps.

The gameplay is fun as hell, reminds me of Rainbow, and I really liked Vegas and Vegas 2. After I got the hang of the game, I was able to hold my own.

Then i was playing with the options and FINALLY, someone allowed for the customizabilty of the controller! More devs should do this, this alone made my day :).

Played some more, met a few people who were inthe same boat as me, and made a few friends, played for hours.

There was a few points of lag, but honestly not much at all. I don't know how this game got such negative press...gamespot gave it 6.5, and the other critics averaged just under 7. This game is great! Probably would give it a 7.8 or something.

Anyways, just thought I'd share...if you're interested, add me JonnyMango and we'll hook itup.

Had the same experience myself... this is my first SOCOM game and got it regardless of some negative scores it got from reviews...

The game is great but i get frustrated when i encounter some issues like logging on etc due to server problems which luckily are being addressed atm by devs...

SOCOM is great and being in a team in which you are supported and there is constant cooperation makes the game so much better...

Too bad low scores might hold back some gamers from getting SOCOM....

Yeah I agree my first Socom too. I think the reviews were alittle hash and were based more in part to do with it's problems rather then the game itself. I can see myself growing tiered of the gameplay though because there is practicaly no reward system.

Im glad to hear you like it, after all SOCOM has always been the best online tactical/teambased console based shooter imo. Ive had next to no troubles when playing, it was hard to play on launch day though.

You hit the nail on the head...I feel this game was reviewed based on installation rather then gameplay. Devs are at fault, no doubt, but I think they possibly should have waited prior to reviewing this game.

But seriously, Resistance 2 will have to wait, just going to try to play catch up with all you vets out there :)

i think this is a brilliant idea, it will get everyone involved in tournaments and have a big impact on the way the community works. Back when i played socom 2 pretty much everyone was in a clan anyways.

My MAJOR , and i mean major problem with this game is that when socom 2 released it had something around 22 maps, this new socom has 7, i dont care for night or day or small or large, just want more maps.

nope.

It does remind me of R6V2 when you customize your player. What i find funny is that NO ONE read the messages Slant 6 prompt you with when reading the user license agreement. They are working on the server issues. I took the time out of my life to see how many servers they have assuming each room ex, east 6, canada west, english speaking would make 3 room etc...in all i counted 79 the other night, Imagine a room full of 79 servers and god knows what servers they are using prob hand-me down ones. So yea i dont agree with the overall rating. You rate a game based on the usual except there is no story line. you rate graphics, sound, gameplay and wat ever else equates into the rating system. I assume gameplay is a huge part because server stability has much to do with how the game runs overall. and of course the last part is directed @ Mabuddy.

The ranking system doesn't work, so it really doesn't matter either way. it still shows me having played 1/3rd of my games and having something like 2000 team kills, besides every other broken statistic. I love the freakin game, but that **** is rediculous, this generation.

Bottom line... this is a playstation 2 game. In no way does it show itself as a next gen game. leaving single player out you would have thought the online would have been perfect.

It is clear that very little money and time went into the decelopment of this game.

Sad becuse I enjoyed Socom 1, 2,,,,,,,,,,,,and, 3

But this is just a slap in the face for most gamers...they should have just remade Socom 2 in HD and bug free for $10

This game comes close to realism for me. So yea, you'll see me on it taking fools. It's fun too. My only gripe is that I wish I could use other weapons like the FAMAS. And I wish I had more information like how you rank up and what the symbols mean. I have seen countless symbols next to people names, it would have been great to know what they all meant.

The headset is excellent.

I would give this game a 8.1. It will get higher when they fix some of the existing issues and add features they promised. Here's hoping that it ends up like Warhawk. Warhawk is nothing like the first time it was released.

the symbols are the same according to their respected nationalities. its like the difference between the insignia of the airforce and the marines. looks different, but its all the same.

have you even played it? the graphics are definitely next gen, if not photo realistic. theres where more attention to detail in this game than cod4 even though it doesn't look as realistic. i think that things like plant life that moves in the wind is more realistic. theres way more destructible stuff including tons of things that explode like things from gas tanks in mopeds laying against a wall, to a propane tank that you don't even notice is laying there. there is also tons of more destructible vehicles like huge army trucks to dinky cars, and way more variety in the architecture...not like in cod4 where they copy and pasted the same objects onto every map, . the same car in different colors, trucks don't even do anything, you see the same dumpsters and building designs everywhere with one or two walls or doorways missing, the camo system is far more effective, and the map designs overall are way ahead of COD4. Urban Wasteland is an outstanding map and nothing in COD4 comes close. and then theres the ability to play the same maps in the night or the day.

i could go on and on. this is a ps3 socom multiplayer. sure, no single player, but you won't mind it. you get a $50 headset and a $10 game.

It is still a very fun game even with the glitches

I completely disagree with the score 6.5 but while playing the game it really deserves atleast an 8.5 since its also an online only game

I love it, even with all of the server problems, but damn, it is totally pointless to put that the game is included with trophies on the back of the box when they are arriving in a patch.

It's just plain lieing. Anyway, I am still enjoying it.

COD4 has not been played since I had madden. honestly it does not take skill to play COD4..SOCOM is a team based game. I Love it thus far other than the freezing and server issues.
