The TV may be able to accept a 1080p signal, but it ends up downscaling it to its native resolution (720p or 1080i). Basically, you're making the TV convert a signal for no reason at all, which might degrade the picture quality. Unless your set's native resolution is 1080p, don't check the box for it.

Hmm.... To my understanding, after you've checked your selection for the resolution you think you have, the PS3then checkswhat your tv can offer in terms of the best resolution. Normally if your tv supports up to 1080i & you chose 1080p on your display settings, the PS3 will let you knowthat the 1080pcan't be chosen. That was my understanding but I could be wrong.

Many people will disagree with me, but I think that the tv's native resolution is best. If your tv's native resolution is 720, use 720p. If it's 1080, I say use 1080i since your tv doesn't have 1080p. I've tried 720p and 1080i on my Sony 1080p SXRD 55" tv and 1080i looks better than 720p to me.

Wait my Tv supports up to 1080i but it is 420p does this mean that by setting my ps3 to 1080i(it looks a lot better) is wrecking my tv?
