Hey everyone. ok so if you are like me you have been stuck in NAT type3 for a long time and you have spent countless hours trying to figure out why it wont change. of course there are alot of video's online that show you what to do, but for the most part they were unhelpful.

so here are a list of things to check off because believe it or not my solution just happened to come to me and a friend after about 6 hours of fiddling. and that was after we had given up for a couple of weeks.

having the wrong NAT type can make it harder to connect to people or games. i see alot of forums about no one online in games, or seeing messages like "connecting" and then "Unable to find game" and having to keep refreshing game list with no luck. personally when i played SF4 i could never do a quick search i had to start a game and hope someone connected to me.

NAT 3 = Restricted voice communication and other features
NAT 2 = Correct ports fowarded for your PS3 or it's DMZ'd
NAT 1 = No router, it goes straight through the modem (normally)

1. if you have your PS3 plugged into a router then you need to check your routers settings. you can get to your routers settings by typing 192.168.1.1 into your address bar. you will be prompted to put in your id and password. if you have never messed with this before odds are your user name will be 'admin' and your password is 'password'

---------- this is where you will go if you need to forward some ports. (youtube ps3 port forwarding for more information on that)

2. alot of people think that you can forward these ports to get your PS3 into NAT2, i tried this and it never worked for me but here they are, you can do this by following step 1, then going to port forwarding/triggering. TCP: 80, 443, 5223 UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658

3. make a note of your ps3's IP address just so you can easily find it when you need it.

******************************** here was the winning step for me ************************************

4. it just came to me while my friend (uber techie) was portforwarding like crazy and basically getting all scientific with it.. i said..... "yo dude, routers kinda old, is there an update for it?"

BINGO BANGO BONGO! just typed in the name of my router into google with 'update' at the end of it and downloaded the update. restarted my PS3 and did an internet connection test... and what do you know? NAT2 FTW!

anyway hope this helps, try updating your routers if your having NAT troubles, because it was the simplest of all the freakin solutions me and my friend have been comin up with for months, and now im enjoying crazy fast online play.

Is there anyway to put your PS3 in a DMZ without a router? Ive got my PS3 plugged straight into my PC with an Ethernet cable. Ive then plugged my PC straight into the wall to the internet (Im in Halls of Residence at Uni).

if your trying to connect through your pc it can be done, but there's a few things you gotta do, you gotta share internet connection, then you gotta open the ports on the windows firewall, then i think you gotta use a static ip on your ps3, might be a few other things you gotta do as well
