I'm interested in buying a PS3 (I live in Cyprus which is a EU country).

I would like some advice about the PS3 before buying it.

Most stores here have the 40 GB edition for 435 euros. Is it worth getting the 40 GB, with the 60 already out? What are the prices in the other EU countries for the same package?

Also, what TV should I have, what peripherals would be neccesary to get along the machine? Anything else that needs to be pinpointed out to me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I would get the 4o gig if you are not interested in having too much storage space or if you don't care for backwards compatibility. I got the 60 gig cause I have alot of PS2 games. As for which tv to get, if you have a flat screen that would be the preferred screen to game on but normal standard definition tvs don't look bad either.

I'm not sure if they sell the 80gb one like they do in Canada here. I would get that one if you have the extra coin.

If you have a lot of PS2 and PS One games, then I suggest you get a 60 GB PS3 if you can find one. A 40 GB PS3 is ok too, but it lacks backwards compatibility with older games...

Do yourself a favor and get an HDTV to go with your PS3. Follow these rules.

1. AT LEAST 720p native resolution. If you can afford 1080p, then go for it. Buy the largest screen that you can fit in your home or afford.

2. MUST HAVE HDMI PORT!

If you have a broadband connection, then make sure that you have a wireless network setup. It really helps to get rid of the clutter that wires create. The online play via Wi-fi works very well too.

Don't forget to buy an HDMI cable!

The 40gb is 399 euros in Portugal, tax included. You guys are paying more. Since we only have 2 SKUs in Europe, the 40gb and 60gb, i advise you to get the 60gb.It's 100 euros more but you do get value for that extra money: 20gb more, card readers, 2 more USB ports and backwards compatibility. I would get a 60gb before they run out.

As for an HDTV,a Sony, Samsung or even LG are good choices.

Thanks a lot for the tips!

So, main differences between the 40 and 60 GB is the backwards compatibility? I would like my PS3 to play older games but I can always have the PS2 hooked up in the other TV.

My main worry is if the 40 GB hard drivewill be enough.

I don't really understand where the 40 or 60 GB storage is used for. Are the games being saved in the hard drive, like the memory card did for the previous PS's. How much storagedoes astandard game require? Just to sum it up, are 40 GB enough?

I can tell you i have around 40gb already used in my PS3, and i only have a few downloadable games, demos and game files saved. 40gb might come short, depending on how you'll use your PS3.

you can download demos, games, videos, wallpapers, etc... thats where you spend your hdd space.

also you can buy the games in bluray but you have the option to install them on the hard drive as it will make the loadings faster.

i have a 60GB unit since day 1 in Europe and i have only 20GB free space by now... i have practically every demo that came out in every store (euro, american and japanese). but if i think i'm running out of space i'll delete some old demos or something.

you can also buy another hdd... the ps3 uses the same kind of hdd any laptop uses so you can easilly buy a 200+ GB hdd in the future if you need it.

One more thing guys, the person at the store said that the 60GB version is going out of production in the EU. Is this true? Which versions are still in production?

Thanks!
