I need a game to tie me over until uncharted 2 comes out and since most (or all) of my games are action/shooter I decided to go for a good racing game. I've narrowed it down to need for speed undercover and burnout paradice. Which one is better and why? How long is each game? Is the multiplayer good on each game? What is the car customization like in both games? (this one is very important to me because i like it when there are lots of customization options)

Thanks

I wouldn't really get undercover, cause it was pretty bad. The best NFS game would have to be most wanted. Burnout is good, but if you're looking for customization and using real cars, then most wanted is what you want.

Being a long time fan of Need for Speed (and I don't care much for racing games to be honest) I must admit that Undercover just didn't cut it. To me it seemed too rehashed and bland, and although the game isn't horrible it just doesn't hold up to the tried and true formula of Need for Speed. Burnout Paradise isn't too drab. It's a fun game and the destruction is quite a spectacle. I'd recommend Burnout Paradise. Undercover just isn't all that great.

Burnout is good but it doesnt have any customization, is doesnt have 2player, and online is dead. Now I heard some pretty negative things about Need for Speed Underground, so I would recommand either. Get Mid Night Club.

Burnout Paradise is a great game, the best racing game out on consoles right now though is GRID. I have yet to try Midnight club LA.

Yeah? How good is midnight club L.A.? Is there use of real cars? Is the customization good? Does the gamespot review do justice to the game? If not please give me a link to a good video review that does justice to the game...

I've tried and beaten midnight club LA, undercover, and burnout paradise. i would have to say burnout paradise is the best of the 3 by far bar none. NFS most wanted you can get on the PS3 which really sucks since it was the best one of the NFS series

Burnout is awesome. Plus, it goes for really cheap now, so you can use that extra money you save on other things... ...like bath toys.

Midnight club has alot less structure. The ability to upgrade vehicles and in depth custom cars is always fun. Burnout was lacking in that dept.

Yes... you do have a point there. I love my bath toys and my old ones are getting pretty old moldy and boring now. So I still dont know which one.

I would vote for Midnight Club or Grid.
The car customization in MC:LA is second to none.
Grid is a little more serious of a racer than MC:LA, but we get some really serious races going on MC:LA as well.

Burnout Paradise gets a lower score from me mostly because of the poor wheel support.
The game itself is good, but when your car just suddenly drifts off to one side for no reason, it takes a bit of the fun out of it.

For background on my opinion, I don't own ANY PS3 games that aren't racers, have a G25 Logitech wheel, and have been playing race games since Atari brought out Sprint.

You were asking about MCLA so here it is:

Is there use of real cars?

Yes, all of the cars you drive are 100% liscened/real cars.

The traffic is a mixture of made up cars (that resemble real life ones) as well as some cars by GM (Cobalt, Escalade, Silverado, Cadillac Limo, and some others)

Is the customization good?

The customization features of this game are AMAZING.

Let me go over most of them with you:

The Front of the Car

  • Bumpers
  • Hoods
  • Headlights
  • Intercoolers (Some cars)
  • I forgot what they're called, but on some muscle cars, you can get part of the engine to come out of the hood

The Side of the Car

  • Scissor Doors
  • Side Skirts
  • Side Exhausts (Only some muscle cars)

The Rear of the Car

  • Rear Bumpers
  • Spoilers
  • Tail Lights
  • Exhaust Tips
  • Liscense Plates (The numbers/letters as well as the state)

Wheels

  • There is a huge amount of rims to choose from
  • Brakes (There are 4 options: Silver Disk & Silver Pad; Silver Disk & Light Blue Pad; Silver Disk & Red Pad; Gold Disk & Red Pad)
  • Tire (Different sides/treads)
  • Dimensions (Tire Size, Rim Size, Tire Width, Ride Height) You can set different dimensions for the front and rear wheels
  • Rim Paint (There's chrome, matte, and paint) There are also 3 different parts of the rim you can paint)

Interior

  • You can paint different parts of the interior of you're car
  • Interior Neon
  • Change Color of Gauge Lights
  • Seats
  • Steering Wheel
  • Add an RPM gauge to you're dashboard

Vinyls

  • The customization options for vinyls are amazing. In fact, there's so many things you can do with them that it would take waay to much space to describe it all

Paint

  • You have many slots for paint colors each of which you can assign a custom color (this goes for body paint, rims, neon, window tint etc)
  • You can color different parts of your color different colors, or choose to paint all of it the same
  • Two Tone Paint
  • Types of Paint: Glossy, Metallic, Sparkle, Matte, Pearsclent)

Other

  • There's one widebody kit per car
  • Neon under the car (any color)
  • Window Tint (any color, and opacity)
  • If you go on the Social Club website from Rockstar, you can create an account there and link it to your PSN. Then there are 12 requirements that you can complete. Completing 4 will unlock you hydraulics and airbags for all of your cars. 8 will get you some TIS Modular Rims. Completing all 12 will unlock you the Audi R8
  • The customization options for the bikes are a bit different than what I have mentioned above
  • Some cars are convertible, and you can take the roof down whenever you want

Gameplay (Just an Overview)

  • 24 hour Day/Night Cycle (Different amounts of traffic at differnt times. ie: rush hour, little traffic at midnight, etc)
  • Varying Weather
  • Cops (They also chase the other racers)
  • The ability to pull over for minor infractions
  • In car camera
  • 4 Different Difficulties for Races: Easy, Medium, Hard, Very Hard
  • Multiple Online Modes (Cruise, Race, CTF, etc)
  • Custom Soundtrack

Does the gamespot review do justice to the game?

No. The main complaint they had for the game was the difficulty, and the difficulty was patched. I haven't played the game before the patch, but it really isn't as hard as they make it seem. The "Very Hard" races are a bit of a challenge, but really that's it. The game deserves more of an 8.5 to a 9 rather than the 7.5 that they gave it.

That's a basic overview of the game. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
