Hi,

I am looking into buying a PS3, but mostly as a blu ray player. I do not intend to play many games on it. Which version do you think would be the best. ( basically i want to make sure im not buying a low end version that sucks) Im thinking the 40 gig, but at 100 bucks more for the 80, its nto that bad. please help.

well, personally, i think that $100 for double the hard-drive space is a deal. however, in your case, seeing that you are using it only for blu-ray purposes, the extra hard-drive space wont do much good for you.

that's my 2-cents

See if you can find one of the original 60 gig models with the PS2 engine and all the additionalUSB outlets, etc. The new 80 gig system only emulates PS2 games in software- whcih can be a problem perhaps. The 40 gig does not play any PS2 games.

There might be some of the original 60 gig models leftat some of the bigger stores. Ask them if you don't see them on the floor.

ya im thinking the 40 gig is the way to go. I just cant belive that there is not a version that comes with HD cables. kind of wierd dont you think? Also, yes, the 60 gig would be great if i could find one. its def the way to go. but if i cant im kinda stuck in my decision for now.

yeah only differences between 40gb and 80gb are:

1. 40gb doesnt play PS2 games

2. 40gb only has 2 USB slots (80gb has 4)

3. 40 gb has no memory card slots (80gb has Memory stick, SD and CF card slots)

4. dont forget the difference in hard drive space

If playing Ps2 games isnt that big a deal to you, then the 40gb is a great deal. Who knows you might actually buy a PS3 game or two... Ones I'd recommend: Warhawk, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, Folklore, Unreal Tournament 3... Some have demos on the Playstation store so give them a try.

oh some more advice.... do NOT buy your HDMI cables from a retailer like best buy or circuit city... go to monoprice.com, quality cables without the rediculous markup. I got a 6 ft gold plated HDMI cable for about $17... dont pay $80 for the ones you get at circuit city or best buy. I used to work at circuit city and by far cables had the most markup. When i used my discount I usually only paid about 10% of what most people paid if thats any indication of the markup.... its rediculous.

I'd go for the 80GB version, because I could change my mind later... I mean, I saw a post earlier this morning where a guy said that he also bought the PS3 just for the Blu-ray and changed his mind after trying Uncharted.
