So I need a smaller HDTV for my room but I have some questions.

I need a TV that doesn't give me black bars while playing PS3, that is something that for some reason I can't stand.

I want to get something around 28 to 32 inches, does 1080p matter at that size? I have an HDMI cable for my PS3 so if I do get a 720p TV would I be able to use HDMI or do I need 1080p?

Does anyone know of a good HDTV that is about 28 to 32 inches that is great for PS3 around the price range of $400?

Most 720p sets also have HDMI inputs, so that's not a problem. As for the difference: it depends how close you are to the screen, but in general I don't see 1080p vs. 720p differences on a 32 in. set when playing even five feet away. 1080p is more of a 40"+ difference-maker.

you should get a tv w/ atleast 2 hdmi ports so u can get hd tv as well, Samsung, sony and sharp make the best - also expensive. Olevia makes good lower-priced tv along with LG. idk if this is general but i have a 1080p 47" but it defaults the ps3 at 720i - or atleast it says it does.

Ok here is the low down on tvs for you.

720p is just fine in anything 32 inch and smaller. the 1080p in a tv that size is overkill.

Now for the brands.

Samsung is rated number one right now. Then sony. I like a samsung set much more then a sony, main reason being is that sony doesnt have true colors sometimes. Some of sonys reds look like an off red or a washed out red. Not much of fan of that.

Now for a good set that will be about 500 or less is a Vizio. Vizios used to be crappy tvs about 2ish years ago when they first came out. But now in the past few months they have really upd there game and they have some very nice sets. Nice thing about Vizio also is that they are made right here in America. to be exact they are made in Irvine, California.

So i hope you find a nice set =] and i hope this helped.

Basicly I was going to get the Samsung Touch of Color 24 or 26 inch but then I found out that while playing PS3 you will get black bars I guess and I can't stand those in games. I don't think the guy a few posts ahead of me read the part that it really does need to be around 400 dollars, I have a very nice, large TV now but I need to move the PS3 so I need a smaller TV for that.

A 720p in a smaller size is just fine. The 1080p resolutions are mostly for larger screens. Also most games are produced in 720p native resolution and trying to upscale to 1080p can have a negative result like frame rates. As for brand names I personally like Sony electronics (they have always given me the very best service over the years, I have some Sony electronics that are several years old and they still work like new) but there are a number of good brands on the market.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8636675&type=product&id=1194054017282 Would this be good assuming I need a good HDTV for PS3 (not perfect) and TV viewing in my price range. It is very important that this won't give me black bars this is key.

look for a TV that has a good number of inputs and 720p is all you need. I shopped for an hdtv a year ago and ended up with a 42" plasma Panasonic. What I learned from the whole thing is don't worry about reviews so much. Unless you just love to sit there and analyze how your image looks, it really doesn't matter that much. They all look good. I think any sharp, panasonic, sony, or samsung would work out well. Just look around at the stores in your area and find the one with the features you want that is the cheapest. Iv never had good luck with "off brand" electronics, but maybe the Visio's and other brands are ok. I would stick with name brand, though.

Man by the time you pay tax youd be better off checking the web for a little better TV with no tax. Just saying.

Sites you should check out are

look this tv is similar to my old one... it's good but it's very low in contrast 1500:1 for gaming it would ok, but for movies..... expect to see a lot of ISO dots.. (or whatever they call them.)

As long as its good for games and some TV and won't give me black bars, as I will be watching most of my TV and movies on my 60 inch Sony. This is just a smaller TV for my PS3.
