Hi all

I allready did another topic but didnt get much answers so I hope now you can help me. Well I have a cable modem and i connected it to my ps3 with an ethernet cable so that means its wired connection that I have, problem is when I go to network settings then I make all settings either automatic or simple but when it says test connection i try it and it says failed to connect to the internet so I am wondering what am I doing wrong, I heard there was a name and a password that my internet company gives me so I should be able to acces the internet with it but I am wondering in which filter am I supposed to write that name or password or if there is something else I need to do ?

Your internet company shouldnt have a password for your router, that should be something that you created or whoever set up your network created. Are you connecting your ps3 directly to your cable modem or to a router, and if its to a router what kind of router do you have?

The problem with what you're asking help with requires a lot of back and forth conversation in order to help you. I would recommend calling 800-345-SONY. Tell them what problem you're having and they will be able to help you fix it right away. It will save you a lot of time as opposed to waiting for replies and answering people's questions to troubleshoot.

if its connected directly to your modem make sure you unplug your modem for about 1 minute and plug it back on, it has to reset when you plug something new in. thats what i used to do before i got a router, and i recommend pick up a router soon its not very expensive. if that dont work than i dont know, but it should

Agreed. I would go a step further though. Unplug the modem from the wall outlet, and restore your system after back up. Then, plug the modem back in after 1 - 2 minutes. Wait for the lights in front that tell you it's synced. Then power on your PS3 and do the automatic connection. If that doesn't work then I don't know either.

You need to get a Router, plain and simple and all your current problems should disappear. YOu can unplug and plug the modem but that gets dull quick and you may end up damaging the wire connector over time. Good Luck Gamer!!

Incorrect. If you do it once, you should NOT have to do it again, unless you unplug the wire again. If you ARE planning to constantly unplug the ethernet wire from the PS3, than yes, you WILL need a router if you don't want to damage things and constantly go through resetting stuff.
