Need Help with last Mission in GTA IV *Spoilers*

SPOILERS Start

I choose to do the deal with dimitri and Im at the last mission, when I get on the boat and Little J's helicopter comes to pick me up, my boat just cant reach the heli in time. I've tried it over 10 times and tried to take any shortcuts I could see but i still cant get to the chopper in time. I looked at some walkthroughs but all they say is to tap the button that you use to get in a vehicle. This is ruining the game for me. Did this happen to anyone else? I just want to beat the game so i can explore and play online and one again, rockstar has to put something poorly thought out in a mission. Still I love the game but Im very depressed about this. I know I'm not driving slow, and I push the stick forward which I think it gets the boat to lean forward, increasing speed. Please, Any advice on this will be very helpful.

When your chasing the heli, chase close. Only that way youll make it to LJ.
